What's the deal with this guy? As an Orioles fan, I am pretty pissed....

"Miserable" Kline wishes he'd stayed here
By Rick Hummel
Of the Post-Dispatch
04/13/2005

"I'm miserable," Steve Kline said.

The biggest reason, of course, is the 23.18 earned-run average that was the first week's work for the former Cardinals lefthander who now is wearing Baltimore Orioles orange and black.

But, Kline says, his feelings go beyond statistics.

"It's not what I thought it would be," Kline said, declining to address the negative specifics emanating from his brief time in Baltimore. "Sometimes you miss the old places. But you've got to play the hand you're dealt."

Kline, 32, is with the Orioles because they dealt him a $5.5 million hand for two years, far more than the Cardinals cared to invest in the reliever, who was here for four years. "I had to take care of my family," he said.

But he said that among other things, he missed the "leadership" involved in playing for Tony La Russa and the Cardinals - "the way guys went about their business. I miss a lot about the guys in St. Louis. ... St. Louis always got me geared up to play there."

Kline said he would undo his free-agent departure if he could. "I'd like to rub that bottle and have that genie come out," he said, "and grant me a wish that I could go back."

"I'm so used to (Edgar) Renteria and Jimmy (Edmonds) running down my mistakes and picking me up," he said, recalling his Gold Glove teammates with the Cardinals.

Even though one of the home runs was on the road, Kline said he already had begun to hear it from the Baltimore fans. "There's nothing worse than getting booed at home," Kline said. "St. Louis fans are too good for that. They understand the game more than most people."

basically, st louis fans are the best in baseball, if not the best in all of sports... we understand the game and understand that humans aren't perfect... unlike you east coasters who expect top-notch performances day-in, day-out... spoiled bitches

also, kline was loved/worshipped in stlou, so it's no surprise that being booed is so bothersome

My hatrid for JD Drew is solely concentrated on him... he was the douche that wouldn't sign, so I don't really blame the Cards for that... Rolen was another douchebag, so I think he's probably a good fit in St. Louis ;)

Being from St. Louis (area) please let me add...THANK GOD THAT ASS HAT KLINE IS GONE!

It's hard for me to say "Cards fans are the best..." because I've lived here and attended games my entire life. The only other place I've seen a game was at Wrigleys Field and I can say that we are much better than those people IMO. However I think we have twice as many bandwagon fans as anyone else. I saw the biggest crowd in my life back in the mid 90's (pre Mac Gwire) that turned into almost nothing by the 3rd inning. Turns out it was Beanie Baby night. Dont hold this post against me. Its 4:20 am and i havnt slept in 3 days.

He left a town that was great to him for a big paycheck. I'm glad to see him struggle.

If he didn't want to play here , don't sign. Now I think he's lost the respect of Tejada, Surhoff, Matos, Mora, J Lopez....well eveyone in short. He's dug himself a pretty big hole. I wonder if the Yankees or Steve Kline will get booed louder tonite?

first off, what was the score by then ?

secondly, the 90's(before Big Mac arrived) were hard times to be a Cardinal fan after the era of Whitey ball had passed. Didn't Red Schcantspellhisname manage the team for a quick minute ?

I give Tony and the entire staff all the credit in the world for bringing the Cardinal nation back together again, but they made some weird moves in the off season.

The Cardinals are rolling the dice big this year and hoping it pays off. It didn't help when Ankiel decided he didn't want to pitch, thus making not signing Kline a little bit of a problem.

And I still don't understand why Philly fans would want too keep booing JD Drew. :P

No kidding. I'm actually glad he's gone because I got really sick of hearing "JD Drew is on the disabled list again due to the enormous swelling of his vaginal lips.." (direct quote from some guy who knows this one dude) and whatnot.

it was great to see jd leave... it was time... plus it helped our pitching staff tremendously...

on a side note, i think things are looking good again this season for the team... the cubs and astros will not have what it takes... could be an easy summer...
