16-year-old Turkish soccer fan stabbed to death
Posted: Sunday November 21, 2004 3:20PM; Updated: Sunday November 21, 2004 3:20PM

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) -- A 16-year-old Turkish soccer fan was stabbed to death Sunday during a fight between Besiktas fans at halftime of the team's match against Rizespor, reports said.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the brawl at the Inonu Stadium, which the Anatolia news agency said occurred between two groups of Besiktas at halftime, when Rizespor was leading 1-0. The match ended 2-2.

Cihat Aktas was stabbed during the fight and died at a local hospital, the Anatolia said.

At the end of the match, police barricaded the exits near where the incident occurred and were trying to identify the culprits based on images caught on security cameras, state television reported.

In April 2000, two English soccer fans were killed in street clashes in downtown Istanbul before Leeds played Galatasaray in a UEFA Cup semifinal.

Turkey's government has pledged to crack down on soccer violence.

Bloody hell, stabbing the same teams fans in the stadium, what ever next?! I'll never forget what happened in 2000. Fortunately our lot battered them in Copenhagen, along with Leeds, Brondby and FC Copenhagen fans. I'll never forgive Tottenham fans cheering Galatasaray on with the circumstances, then again I already hated them after supporting manu against their own team in 99.

Move on? The 16 year old can't move on, nor can Christopher Loftus or Kevin Spate. I find your post a tad insensitive to say the least.

Geez, it really ain't worth it :( You should see the chaos in Glasgow on a Saturday night after an Old Firm game - stray anywhere near the East or the South and you hear nothing but sirens. :?

The above story reminds me of what happened outside of Fenway Park this year. Yup a girl died.
