NFL rivalries are bullshit. Reason #1 why college football is better than NFL.

Giants and 49ers have had some battles....but I guess it was primarily from about 1980 and after, so it's hard to compare it to some of the other ones.

I surely thought that rivalry was going to be ranked higher.

if this is "of all time", how is a rivalry that's been around for just over 40 years ranked higher than one that's been around for over 80? That just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

i don't think that's really been much of a rivalry at all for more than ten years or so, apart from the fact they're in the same division. growing up, there was almost never any fanfare over vikings/packers games that i can remember.

The current structure of the NFL basically kills rivalries, as teams and players will do most anything to get more money or be more competitive. The result is often trading away favorite players to the "rival" team.

i disagree with this. trades in the NFL are relatively far and few between. trades between division opponents are even less common.
free agency, i'll buy.

i'm sure that's partly due to the fact that recently, neither team has ever been good at the same time. the bears were good in the 80s and the packers sucked, then the packers got good in the 90s and the bears have mostly sucked since then. But still, the article said "of all time".
and there were still some pretty big "rivalry" type things going on. i remember those bear/packer games in the 80s were always slugfests, and of course there was the "ghost of walter payton blocks the kick" game in lambeau a few years ago...
