I think this is a good idea, but I'm guessing this won't be a league-wide trend, as much as it probably should be.

Alcohol sales banned for Jets-Patriots MNF

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Fears of rowdy fans during the holiday season have led officials to ban alcohol sales at next Monday night's game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots at Giants Stadium.

Jets spokesman Ron Colangelo said the ban was put in place to protect fans.

"It's for the safety of our fans, so that they can have a comfortable environment at a time when the holiday season can get very festive," Colangelo told The Record of Bergen County for Tuesday's newspapers.

The ban comes after a sometimes violent Nov. 27 Jets-Saints game in which police made nine arrests. In one altercation during the second half, two fans were stabbed outside a men's room. In another incident, a state trooper broke his leg while trying to eject a fan who reportedly threw a beer bottle.

Earlier this year, New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority president George Zoffinger pledged to deal with the problem of drunk fans.

At the beginning of the year, a jury found the stadium beer vendor, Aramark, and a New York Giants fan liable for $135 million in damages in a case involving a 7-year-old girl who was paralyzed when the fan hit her family's car after leaving a game.

The fan had purchased six beers at halftime even though he'd already drunk so much he was slurring his words.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

although i don't drink usually in the stadium at pats games (sometimes a beer or two) i think it's crap. like myself people drink enough to kill a small horse tailgating. I would guess 80% of all the alcohol consumed is before and after the game anyways.

it sucks that the actions of a few assholes ruin things for everyone, but this is probably a good idea for night games and maybe even 4:00 games.

I'm sure this means they will also get rid of all the beer ads around the stadium.

That'll be one hell of a drunken tailgate, and cheaper too.

How about arresting drunken idiots who start fights?

What a fucking concept!

I'm already all fucked up when I get into the game. Plus I always sneak a few in with me.

I think the bigger issue is the absolutely horrible games we, as fans, are being subjected to on Sunday and Monday night games. Last night's game was probably the worst Monday Night game in recent memory (and not from a score perspective, but from a pure match-up perspective). I can't wait until the Jets/Pats!

sounds like they may have adopted the same policy towards beer sales pearl jam was using on their 05 tour

i feel sorry for Jet fans, what are they gonna do to ease the pain? sitting out in the cold and freezing your ass off when your team is having a rough year sucks even more without beer sales.

Yeah, everyone I know does......why pay 6 bucks for some suds when you can bring some free ones in with you?

I do buy one right away when I get inside that way I have something to pour my cans into inside. They see you drinking a can and they throw your ass out.

nice, I always line my waistband with beers.....when the guy pats there and asks what it is I say it's my belt buckle.....they usually laugh and let me through. There have been a few times where they confiscated beer from me but that was right after they started beefing up security.

My favorite was last season in december I went to go in, I had 3 cans in my hood and 2 in my waste. I as I get up to the guards in line one of the cans slides down my leg and out the bottom of my pants. I bend down to grab that beer when my hood flies up and the 3 beers fly out onto the ground in front of me, one bounced off my head. The best part was one broke open and started spraying all over the place......it was like a fucking comedy skit. I'm supised they even let me in.

in the good old days, you could sneak a 12-pack in a bag into Yankee Stadium without breaking a sweat. Now, it's a different story.

As has already been mentioned, they're stupid if they think this is going to cut down drinking.

At the good old days of the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, you could always sneak in a 40 in a wadded up sweatshirt that you carried into the game. Then grab a plastic cup from a vendor and pour yourself some beer all game.
