Probably my favorite sports time of the year. The NCAA tourney is very close but i like college football more so the bowl games are tops. The interconference match-ups are always intriguing as long as the teams are decent. Even tonights game has been fun to watch. Check out this Toldeo QB, the MAC continues to put out great QB's. Big Ben, Leftwich, Penington(*ahem*), Charlie Batch(*double ahem*).
Watching Cal play you can really understand how their QB's have such success in the NCAA and can't get it together in the NFL. They have this strange angled drop-back and they hold the ball almost above their ear. It's such a strange formula that you can see how it would all break down under NFL-level pressure.
And I dont' think it's at all a coincidence that Akili Smith, Joey Harrington and Kyle Boller were also Tedford products.

I saw those GMAC Bowl highlights, there was like 7,000 people there. Pathetic. I can't watch these early bowls. Arkansas State?
It's really sad, 7000 people was probably the fan base for the two teams combined. I think its a shame that just because a team wins 6 games against Div 1A opponents it somehow makes them "bowl eligible". Cal went 7-4 and their opponents record in the 7 wins was something like 20-68.
I think its time for an extensive letter writing campaign to the commisioners of our respective conferences calling for the development of some kind of playoff system.

It's really not sad when you consider those games are not for us, they are for the two teams and the city involved with putting the bowl on. It's good for that town and it's good for the players and the teams. They get an extra 3 weeks of practice, time to evaluate next springs players and the players get all sorts of goodies which is nice. I couldn't watch these games either but it's really not hurting anyone to put them on. I am absolutely infavor of a playoff or at least a plus 1 game which I think is more doable under the facist regime of college presidents but I don't really have a problem with tons of virtually meaningless bowls because I don't have to watch them and the players actually get a little back from the schools that take such an economic advantage of them the rest of the year.
