love the idea, there needs to be more of this. the nhl tried it a couple years ago. i would love to see more; gillette needs to open their doors and have a bruins vs. habs / rangers game.

If they can get some decent TV coverage of this, I'd be all for it. I seem to remember that Habs-insert other team here game being kind of hard to watch.

Definitely a cool idea to keep going, though.

Didn't that set the record for largest-ever attendance for an outdoor event?

For hockey, yes.

I was there. It was fucking cold.

The cooling systems can keep the ice in good shape unless there's heavy, steady rain. A few drops won't hurt a thing.

You obviously didn't tailgate long enough before it, then. I was wearing just a hockey jersey and a longsleeve shirt underneath by game time. Probably too many hockey shots (aka, we glued 4 shot glasses to a hockey stick so we could take group shots and also spill all over the slow ass who wasn't ready.) Of course, my senior yr. I tailgated for every home hockey game. Nothing like barbecuing and drinking in February in Michigan.

Yeah, the entire week leading up the Cold War was well above normal temperature with some rain and they still pulled it off. Bit of fog on the ice, though.

They'd be idiots if they didn't make it a BC-BU game. I'm kind of surprised the one at Lambeau isn't WI-MN.

Yeah we were at some bar on Grand River, big ass Irish pub, I don't remember the name of it. The problem is that I was in the dead last row in the upper level, feeling the wind roll in the entire time. Brrr....

The Oilers/Canadiens game was awesome to watch... it was absolutely freezing (something like -20 or -30 I think) which is pretty chilly on the face to be skating up and down the ice if you've ever tried it.

They should do one of the rivalries (Leafs/Habs, Flames/Oilers, Isles/Rangers depending what the weather is like in NY) this way every couple of years... it could generate a whole lot of interest in the game if nothing else.
