Yeah, Manny was coming forward, and landed big shots, but I saw Marquez landing more consistently, his landed punches were cleaner, and he dictated the pace of the fight for the most part. Looking at it round by round, Marquez did more than enough to win a majority of them.
If you're just going to favor the offensive fighter over the more defensive one, then this is all moot obviously. But the way judges are supposed to score is on the famous four criteria: clean punching, effective aggression, defense and generalship. Marquez beat Manny on three of those four, and while he wasn't as 'aggressive' as Manny, he did respond whenever Manny took the fight to him. Manny's offense wasn't as effective as it usually is, and even he knew it. Look at the way they behave at the end of the fight. Pacquiao looked totally disappointed, he knew he was outclassed for the most part of the fight.
Anyways, opinions, assholes, et al. I had a great time. I'll never forget being there. This was another classic.
I fully understand what your saying, Rafa. Counterpunching is so undervalued and Marquez counterpunches beautifully. You are right...Vegas is not gonna gonna sacrifice the Pacman especially in a close fight like that. Marquez has been in the business long enough to know he had to do more than what he did that night to get the win....but then again, I know he didn't want to get knocked down again either. To go for the KD or KO against Pacman risks getting rocked yourself.
Fuck it...this is gonna be argued for a long time but I really enjoyed the fight.
Marquez is Hall of Fame all the way.
This definitely shook up the boxing world. I'm really interested in what JMM is gonna do next. I'm not opposed to a fourth fight with Pac.
Question for you guys is:
Is Pacquiao on the decline, had a bad night, or Marquez just has his number?
and...
What are your predictions now for a Pac-Mayweather match after seeing their recent fights?

I'm not sure to tell you the truth...but he also could have been upset that he didn't win like he wanted to. He kept saying he wanted to go out there and KO him or at least win convincingly. He knew he wasn't able to do that.

I just think Marquez has his number, there's always matchups in sports that don't make any sense. Certain guys in tennis give the best players fits, average pitchers that star hitters can't hit. Guys that kill pitchers that are typically dominant. It happens. I think it's just something about JMM that gives Manny trouble, when Manny generally dominates against others.
As for Mayweather...I think people tend to be knee jerk about everything in sports these days. People forget that Floyd wasn't dominating that Ortiz fight and won by sucker punching a person who wasn't defending himself. Mayweather didn't look that great, call it rust, call it whatever. The answer of the day is that Floyd will beat him because Manny looked subpar vs a fighter that he dominated. It doesn't always play out that way. I read or heard someone mention how Frazier made Ali look bad, then was dominated by Foreman, then Foreman was dominated by Ali. Anyway. I think Floyd will be a slight favorite and I think Manny would beat him.
Someone mentioned that maybe Manny wasn't aggressive purposely, so that Floyd would be more likely to do the fight...so he was holding back. I can say that Manny did look like he was holding back, but I'm not really gonna buy that conspiracy theory. It's interesting nonetheless.

I'd rather see Manny-Floyd before it completely slips away as a possibility. I don't see the point in Pac-Marquez IV. Marquez can't knock out Manny and he's not going to get a decision even if he earns it.
Yeah, that was some fine boxing from Cotto. I wonder who he'll fight next. Scum Arum wants to put him against Chavez Jr. What's the point? He'll eat that kid alive. I think I'd rather see Cotto-Mayweather than Mayweather-Pac at this point.

I thought the point deductions were a stretch too, but I also didn't think the knockdown was a knockdown and I do think Khan should have ha a point deduction for holding repeatedly. I think Peterson won the fight anyway. He landed many more damaging and harder punches, he was the aggressor and stalked all fight while khan ran, threw his quick powder puff combos that hardly land, then ran some more. Peterson was destroying him to the body in the middle rounds and landed so many more clean, hard power shots to the head.

I don't think he was jobbed. Like jimmac said, the deductions were a stretch, but not totally unwarranted. Man, there's a difference between boxing and outright running. It was pretty embarrassing at points. It was a close fight, and the deductions tipped it in favor of Peterson. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.
It's funny Khan should complain of home-cooking. What about the Barrera win, Khan?
