Probably should think twice before hitting women.

Tarver tested positive for steroids in a pre-fight test versus Kayode.

Guys, you should tune in for Soto-Matthysse on the Ortiz undercard tonight. It's going to easily steal the show.

Missed that fight. Got home just as the Ortiz-Lopez fight was starting. That was a good fight to watch. One thing with Ortiz is he is out there throwing and getting hit with bombs. I like watching him. Shame what happened and that he decided to stop fighting. I love people saying he has no heart and calling him out before they know the extent of the injury. I argued with a friend and told him it's easy to call someone a bitch from your couch in front of a tv. After watching him get clobbered by Berto and coming back, getting up and keep going I can't call him out (and I was rooting for Berto, that fight made me a fan). The dude has taken some beatings that most people couldn't dream of taking.

I've been in a lot of fights in my life, probably close to 50, started at an early age due to the area I was in when I was young. I was taught to fight until you know for sure they aren't able to get up and do anything back to you, and vice versa. So I've given and taken plenty of brutal ass kickings. That said I'd never suggest that he is a pussy for quitting in that fight or the one vs Maidana. I've seen guys who quit in the ring many other ways, who are clearly not there to fight, he was there to fight, he broke his jaw (or thought so) and felt it wasn't worth it to continue and risk worse. I can't fault him for that. I hope he recovers and comes back strong.

That was a great night of boxing. Best card of the year so far.

I hold nothing against Ortiz. He's a lot of fun to watch, and he got busted up pretty badly. Apparently he had surgery yesterday. It sucks for him that an "easy" fight turned into a nightmare, but these upsets are great for the sport.

I was kind of thinking of going to Canelo-Ortiz, but now I'll go only if Cotto decides to fight Canelo. No way I'm making the trip for Chavez-Martinez though. I refuse to give Arum a fucking dime. Watching Chavez take a beating on TV will be good enough.

Soto-Matthysse was also good while it lasted. You should look it up on youtube, jimmac.

Quote:
Rolando Arrellano, manager of former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22KOs), informed BoxingScene.com that later today he will send a letter to Golden Boy Promotions to place them on notice that Ortiz wants to exercise his contracted rematch clause for a second showdown with Josesito Lopez (30-4, 18KOs).

This past Saturday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Ortiz and Lopez went to war for nine rounds. At the end of the ninth round, Ortiz advised his corner that his jaw was badly broken and he was unable to continue.

According to Arrellano, Ortiz initially broke his jaw in the fifth round and would later suffer a second break, which caused severe damage inside his mouth. Ortiz was starting to spit puddles of blood in his corner and found himself using his glove during several rounds to adjust his jaw.

Ortiz underwent successful surgery, with doctors placing a titanium bar and three screws in his jaw. The recovery time could take as long as six months, says Arrelano.

"He had his jaw broken in the fifth and he fought for four rounds with a broken jaw which is f***ing unheard of. He said that when he would throw punches his jaw would just fall open and he would use his glove to push up against his jaw to keep it shut. The break of the jaw was so severe, because he continued f***ing fighting, that he severed some veins on the inside and it was called internal bleeding. The doctor told us that if we didn't get him to the hospital right away, he could bleed out. What that means is f****ing die from lack of blood," Arrelano told BoxingScene.com.

"He went into surgery and the jaw was broken in two places. There was a double break. The first break and then several punches later there was a second break. They had to put a titanium steel piece of bar in it and three screws in it. I came in and talked to the doctor. The doctor told me it would be wired shut for two weeks and probably about four to six months until it is fully healed. The jaw will be stronger than before because of the titanium."

"Victor wrote down on a piece of paper - 'exercise my rematch clause now.'
Today [Golden Boy and Team Lopez] they will be put on notice that my fighter wants the rematch clause exercised. We have a certain amount of time to do so. I will be writing that email later to [Golden Boy head matchmaker] Eric Gomez and it will be conveyed to all of the executives."

Arrelano says Ortiz is in good spirits and looks forward to the rematch. Ortiz believes he was close to knocking Lopez out before the stoppage.

"He said 'I know I was going to knock him out real soon. I felt it, I could see it in his body. The knockout I felt was coming real soon. I got caught. I broke my jaw, I did the best I can. I go back to the ninth round and it just locked open and I couldn't close it or defend it no more,'" Arrelano said.

Because Ortiz's recovery time could take a few months, and Showtime would have to find an open date, Lopez may have the option of taking an interim-fight before facing Ortiz again. Arrelano has no issue with Lopez taking an interim fight - if the rematch is going to take an extended amount of time to put together.

Arrelano also had some choice words for some of the critics out there.

"Most of these people making that conclusion [that Ortiz quit] is based on ignorant facts. Most people do not know his jaw was broken in the fifth round. Most people do not know how severe it was. He kept f***ing going and gave the fans what they wanted. And after knowing all of that, if people still think he's a quitter - I respectfully invite them in the f***ing ring, break your f***ing jaw, cut some vein in the back of your neck and let's see how long you last before going into a complete panic," Arrelano said.

I was hoping Canelo-Lara would happen but their both promoted by GBP so it's never going to happen. Word is it's going to be Canelo-Trout or the winner of Spinks-Bundrage 2.

Very enjoyable watching Khan get destroyed like that. Maybe I'll stop seeing interviews where the guy talks like he is the second coming of Roberto Duran, and everyone else claiming he is "elite".

I enjoyed it too. I gotta give him credit for getting up three times and for wanting to keep fighting, but goddamn he can't take a punch.

Marquez should forget Pacquiao and fight Garcia at 140. That would be awesome.

Canelo-Lopez :shake:

I'm particularly proud of this: http://www.bestboxingblog.com/?p=5350

Anyway, good thing August is almost over. September's going to be bananas and October 13th may be even.

I'm still debating whether or not to go to the GBP card on the 15th.
