I was having a discussion with my roommates earlier about who is more well known worldwide, MJ or Pele, and we couldnt come to a conclusion. I was wondering who you guys thought is more know.

Tough call. Now I would say Michael Jordan because Pele is so old. If you took percentage of people in the world that knew Pele in his prime and the percentage of people that knew Jordan in his prime I might go Pele.

That's what I'd say. In their retirement and well past Pele's prime, MJ is probably better known. During the top of their playing days, I think Pele's popularity was far more widespread.

I don't think it's necessarily the media reporting on the games as much as it is the insane amount of advertising. It's truly amazing how world-renowned Pele is without the money of someone like Nike to sell him everywhere.

I'd say right now, Ali is still better known than Jordan. You didn't need to be alive in the 60's to realize Ali's worldwide popularity.
