What because Pedro is 33, he is on the downside. Tell Roger he's on the downside of his carreer.

Pedro's on his downside because he can no longer consistently top 93 mph and can't get past the 100-105 pitch mark. I'm convinced his arm is going to fly off his body one of these days.

He cant, you must not have watched the playoffs then, because he was consistently over 93 in the late innings.

It is true about pedros velocity being down and this definitly isn't the same pedro that was pitching for us in '99' but there is no way the red sox can afford to lose a pitcher like him... He may not be the dominating pedro of old, but if the red sox were not to sign him, then who would they pick up... there aren't a lot of pitchers available that have proved that they can get it done year after year.... bottom line is he is still one of the top pitchers in the game and i can't see him not playing for the red sox next year so open up ur checkbooks and show him the money.........................

and on a different note, don't forget about one of the biggest leaders in that clubhouse.... 'Tek'.... so theo stop screwing around and just sign him too while ur at it

Dont forget about the soon to be newest red sock. Carl Pavano.

pedro is not going anywhere...he just wants some publicity so he will be recognized as a great pitcher of his time. When everthing is done he will still be in a Red Sox uniform

I did watch the playoffs, thank you. In Game 2 against the Yanks Martinez was up above 95-96 at points. In Game 6, I believe he was barely breaking 91-92. The point I was trying to make is that his stuff is not nearly as consistent as it once was, especially his fastball, which was the key to his whole arsenal of pitches.

Dan Patrick is reporting on his radio show that Pedro re-signing with
the Sox is imminent. :D

I thought they offered him arbitration. What did he do, reject it and then negotiate around it?

They did offer him arbitration, along with 8 others.

He has until jan 8th to either accept arbitration or reject and sign or become a free agent.

Right . . . so how does that work if the signing is "imminent?" If he rejects, I thought the window for negotiating is over until May 1.

He can reject but still sign a contract.

But one industry source with direct knowledge of Martinez's talks with teams said last night, "The Mets have more interest in Pedro than Pedro has in the Mets."
