I'm so proud that I started this debate.
Seriously though, Giambi isn't all that silly. Billy Beane had Jeremy Giambi as his leadoff batter for a while. A lot of people think that a high OBP is the most important thing for a leadoff hitter. Thus, Giambi could be good. However, I really think that a leadoff batter should be a good two strike hitter, have a high OBP, and be able to steal a base when necessary.
Having said that, Jeter is the best leadoff hitter, better than Damon.
Some stats to back that up using those qualifiers.

It isn't just who's better leading off, but who's the better #2 hitter. Jeter has more power and hits more home runs, thus I think he belongs at #2 and Damon should lead off.

that was my point, its not whos the better leadoff hitter its whos the better leadoff hitter on the yankees and its damon because jeter is a great 2 hitter

I love Derek Jeter man. I've followed his entire career and that motherfucker runs out EVERY SINGLE ground ball. That's a fuckin' leader. He plays the game the way it should be played and the guy's got so much heart. I wish he was on my team.
As far as the topic goes I'd probably rather have Damon leadoff. I've never liked Jeter in the leadoff spot. He's a great hitter though. #2 is the perfect spot for him in that lineup.

no, that's not the point. the question is who's the best leadoff hitter on the yanks, not for the yanks. what don't you understand?

Jeter in his career has a .303 OBP with two strikes.
Damon has a .277 career OBP with two strikes.
Using my aforementioned criteria, I'd take Jeter over Damon for leadoff. Personally, I don't think the #2 spot is all that important. I liked how Torre did it for a while last year hitting Cano there. It's good for a developing major leaguer because you follw Jeter and are protected by a couple of the games best hitters, Arod and Sheff.
The Yankees would be just as good without Damon. I don't want him on the team.
