As we get ready to part, we resort to the standard topic for male banter – sport. The Super Bowl – the most important game of the American football season – is being played that night, and Rumsfeld asks if I will be supporting the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Green Bay Packers. I say I like the Steelers, because I have memories of watching them play some epic games against the Oakland Raiders, in my first visits to the United States in the 1970s. “Oh nobody could support the Raiders,” he says, “they’re evil.” At this the retired boss of the Pentagon laughs heartily, and strolls back to his office and his archive of documents.

Oakland Coliseum set to be renamed Overstock.com Coliseum
By Paul T. Rosynsky

OAKLAND — Welcome to The O.

The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum will be renamed Overstock.com Coliseum under a deal that could earn the government about $1.2 million a year for the next six years.

The Oakland-Alameda Coliseum Authority that runs Oakland's professional sports complex is expected to approve the naming rights deal Wednesday morning, giving the 47-year-old stadium its fourth name.

The authority has been looking for a new corporate sponsor for the stadium since 2008, when the MacAfee Inc., a maker of computer virus software, declined to extend its yearly $1.3 million naming rights deal.

The agreement with Overstock.com was made despite an uncertain future for the Coliseum, whose two professional sports franchise tenants -- the A's and Raiders -- have indicated desires to leave what next year will become the only stadium in the country housing a professional baseball and football team.

Leases to play at the coliseum expire for both franchises in 2013.

Overstock.com appears to have anticipated a possible departure of the teams with a provision in its naming rights deal allowing the company to opt out of the deal should either team no longer call the Coliseum home.

Not only will Overstock.com have the right to change signs throughout the Coliseum; the company's moniker
will be displayed on the Coliseum's website, in its official stationary, and on the jackets or name tags of guest service staff employees.

The Coliseum Authority also agreed to work with BART and Caltrans to ensure signage indicating the location of the Coliseum be marked with the Overstock.com name. Overstock.com agreed to pay any costs associated with changing signs.

But don't get used to the Overstock.com label. The Salt Lake City-based firm is in the process of re-branding itself as O.co in an effort to gain customers throughout the world and the company has the right to change the Coliseum's name to the O.co Coliseum at any time.

That's less money than a freaking superbowl commercial, wow.

Gotta bump this thread when I can.

The thing that always strikes me is how consistent the Raiders are in committing stupid penalties. Seriously, 15 for 130 yards? If they cut that in half they would have had a good chance to win that game.

Way to keep the Raider reputation going, Rolando.

Raiders' McClain arrested on assault, firearms charges

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain has been arrested. He is facing assault, firearms and other charges after a fight in his Alabama hometown.

Lt. John Crouch of the Decatur Police Department released a statement Thursday saying McClain allegedly fired a gun beside a man's head during a fight reported Wednesday night. The statement says the man begged McClain not to shoot him.

No one was shot, but police say a man who was injured in the altercation drove himself to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

McClain was taken into custody on Thursday and held on $2,000 bond. Another man identified as Jerradius Willingham also is charged.

Earlier this year McClain, the 2009 Butkus Award winner at Alabama, reported someone in Decatur shooting at his vehicle.

Arrest isn't Rolando McClain's first encounter with the law: Gunshots hit vehicle in January, linebacker now facing lawsuit
Published: Thursday, December 01, 2011, 7:00 PM Updated: Thursday, December 01, 2011, 7:00 PM

DECATUR, Alabama -- Rolando McClain's arrest earlier today for firing a gun near a man's head is the latest of several encounters between the football player and the law.

In January, McClain, star of the University of Alabama's 2009 national championship team and a first-round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders, was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe on a Decatur Street when someone fired gunshots at the vehicle, police said.

McClain is also being sued for an alleged incident in November 2008. The lawsuit, filed in Morgan County Circuit Court last year, alleges McClain twice struck Stanford Matthew Mangham with his car near Bryant Hall on the University of Alabama's campus in Tuscaloosa.

McClain has denied the claims through his attorneys.

Mangham, who is seeking $75,000 and unspecified punitive damages against McClain, alleges he was injured by the car striking him, but suffered permanent injuries after McClain confronted him a short time later.

The lawsuit alleges the second incident began after McClain gathered a "gang of football athletes for reinforcement and support." They allegedly found Mangham as he was getting ready for work.

The lawsuit claims that McClain began threatening and yelling at Mangham and then McClain began a "physical assault on another student." Mangham claims he tried to intervene and McClain then "picked the plaintiff up and slung him to the ground whereby plaintiff suffered injury requiring multiple dental procedures and oral surgery to treat the injury, resulting in permanent damages," according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit is scheduled for trial in June.

Clearly he's an elite NFL linebacker on the rise, you haven't really made it until there's gun play.

Off season training with James Harrison?

You can take the Raider out of Oakland...

That's more knife play though really.

TI and Tank Johnson's summer camp is probably a great lockout activity for want to be great NFL linebackers.

Yeah, that was by far my favorite as well. It doesn't even look photoshopped, hahahahaha.
