So I'm stealing this idea from Mike & Mike.

Choose your Mt Rushmore of sports figures. The 4 sports figures who define their sport most and become bigger than the sport.

The only 2 they could agree on belonging on it were Ali and Ruth. What do you think? I need to think about mine for a little while.

There's more than 4 sports, though.

Gretzky deserves to be there but since we're only picking 4 I gotta go with the best football player i've ever seen. If Jim Brown was picked I'd be fine with that

Has any one football player ever been so transcendent that he becomes bigger than the sport, though? I mean, Brady is not that far behond Montana, is he?

Montana was never bigger than the sport but that's what makes football the greatest "team" game. And as far as Brady being close to Montana, I don't see it yet. Although Brady has been amazing in playoff runs and Super Bowl's, I don't see him being on the level of Joe Cool. Montana always had this mysterious aura about him on the field and off. Brady hasn't reached that status and I doubt he ever will. Plus Montana's numbers in Super Bowls are staggering.

Brady's greatness is in the fact that he's a clutch player. He has never put up spectacular numbers and he never will. But he has 2 Super Bowl MVPs to his credit and 3 rings. If he adds a 4th-- which we all agree is more than just possible-- he'll have to go down as one of the greatest ever. Like top 5 QBs ever.

No arguments about how good Montana was, however. I totally agree, but like you just said, no football player has ever transcended the sport.

3 baseball players? Stark should just take Ali off and put Bonds up instead

Stark is a clown. Joe D? Why not put the Mick and Gehrig up there as well while he's at it...
