Torre may have to think about moving him up in the lineup.

I can not believe that he has been playing so well for the past month. he was walking even early in the year but the power surge was a total surprise. I was one of the fans that wanted to just get rid of him - cut him, buy him out, whatever - I could never imagine he would come back this strong.
you're right, early in the year, he was still taking his walks.......but his swing was all fouled up. It seemed his bat speed was ok, but he was missing belt high fastballs he used to crush. Now it seems he's connecting with those pitches......

What's the general feeling on Giambi in New York? I'm guessing it's a lot different than it was four months ago. I've always liked the guy, despite the steriod issue. the general feeling is that it all comes down to production:
if he hits, he'll get cheered.
if he doesn't, he'll get booed.
I don't think too many fans care about the steroid stuff. Most are smart enough to know that there are/were TONS of other guys using the stuff.
By all accounts, he's a really nice guy and his teammates really seem to be pulling for him - but I wouldn't necessarily call him a stand-up guy.

i'm pretty sure bonds told the grand jury he used it but didn't know it was steroids, which is what sheffield said as well.
this is what was reported anyway.
as for giambi, it's one of the most surprising things to happen this year. brian roberts is the only thing i can think of that competes.

I liken this Giambi development to "getting used to" his new body. Now that he's off the juice, he's had to adjust to his new body again. When I was in high school, I was a good golfer, but I was small, and I grew about six inches in my junior and senior years. I took about a year off from playing when I went to college, and the first time back on the course, I was hitting the ball two clubs further than I ever had before. I just got used to my new height and swing pattern. I think Giambi has finally gotten used to his new, less powerful, but still skilled upper body, and he's swinging smart and strong again.
