Dodgers just lost the rights to their 2005 first round pick, pitcher Luke Hochevar. This guy was supposed to be just about major league ready when LA picked him, mid first round because hes a Boras client (he projected as a top 3 pick)

Boras demanded a $4 mill signing bonus, which LA laughed at. In the middle of this bizzare saga, Hochevar, eager to play, fired Boras, hired a new agent and agreed to LA's 2.8 mill offer. Except an hour later, the kid changed his mind, went back to Boras, cancelled the deal with LA, and the Dodgers told him to go fuck himself, hes now in an indy league waiting for the June Draft again.

The kid is going to go most likely #1 to KC, and thanks to Boras will spend all those extra Millions while rotting his early years away for thw dead last Royals.

Way to go Scott!!!!

I'm not fan of Boras...but when you draft one of his clients, you kind of already know what the deal is. Caveat emptor...

true, I just wonder why these kids continue to let him do this to them.

and this kid, the stunt he pulled, was really low class. I wonder just how loose his screws are and who was actually guiding him along the way.

Wait. So the Dodgers are perfectly comfortable giving Furcal a ridiculously inflated contract, even though they had a tough time reconciling the contract with the numbers that Furcal put up in Atlanta, yet they wouldn't pony up another $1.5 million for a signing bonus for a pitcher that is near major-league ready?

If I was a pro I'd love to have Boras represent me.

No way he goes #1, though.

It goes both ways. The kids know what they are getting when they sign with Boras. He's going to get the most $$$ possible. The kids know this and that's why they hire him.

Boras isn't satan. Don't hate the player, hate the game. he's just a capitalist trying to maximize his income. Sounds like most Americans to me.

Boras and signability are the reasons why the Royals aren't going to select Hochevar.

What makes you think the Royals are going to pony up the money the Dodgers wouldn't? David Glass is the cheapest man in the world. I don't see him even attempting to deal with Boras. Especially with the huge mess going on with the GM position. We have a lame duck in there now, weeks away from the draft. Now if we fire him and hire a new one, we are bringing in somebody to make the highest pick in team history with 2 weeks on the job.

Brilliant.

What happened to the guys who just want to play baseball? It's sad to see these kids and all they care about is how many millions they can grab, without ever even having stepped on a major league field.

Earn that shit damnit!

Or be financially secure for the rest of your life, just in case you blow your arm out pitching for the Everett Aqua Sox in a low-A ball game.

Best thing to happen around here in a decade. One thing I don't understand. He is going to remain with the Braves until after the draft next week. Long time assistant GM Muzzy Jackson will be handling the draft for the Royals. I know Dayton isn't familiar with the scounting, but you would think he would like to have a say with the 1st pick in the MLB draft.

I know, weird.

Either he brought his demands down, he's an idiot (he'd rather be in KC than LA?), or the Royals are idiots if he hasn't changed his demands.

I actually think the royals will give in at some point to Boras to show their fans they are commiting to winning. whether thats true or not, I dont know.

the sad thing is, if this kid didnt lose his marbles and pull that strange agent switch-sign-reneg stunt, hed probably be a rich dodger prospect right now....

I'll be damn! Second sign of a commitment to getting better in the last week.

Look, they got to sign him. Letting this drag on would all but kill the fan base that is left. David Glass knows he is going to have to cough up some money, or they wouldn't have made the pick.

Last week when hiring new G.M. Dayton Moore, one of the conditions of him accepting the job was a increased payroll.

It looks like this is the first sign.
