THey are really bad, but to be fair, a lot of this has to do with losing Mazzone and the ownership upheaval (and consequent reluctance to go spend money)
They haven't been a serious WS contender since 99 and they weren't much of one then truely even though they managed to win divisions mainly because the NL East has been pathetic. The team was so much stronger 10 years ago when they should have won more series titles, but again, they had no Mariano Rivera.
If they had picked up a true closer and not relied on the absolutly abysmal staff they started the season with they would be a ton better even with starter injuries. Sosa has been terrible where last year he was streaky good.
Maybe it's good for them to lose during the season, regroup, get a taste for it and improve.
We've been waiting for this to happen for several years, I just don't think they were ready for success this season. Next year has more promise.
Other than the bullpen they are setup pretty nice, It sure would be nice to have one of those fantastic tigers relievers. It would have been nice to pick up Hoffman or Todd Jones when they were available.
That, and Marcus Giles is not a comfortable lead off guy, he was much better in the 2 hole, but I guess that's tough when you have Renteria.
Maybe Chipper Jones will start producing in the second half.
The mets have earned it this year. I'm hoping Tommy G will make it to 300. I'm still thankful for the 1995 win. It makes me miss David Justice.

STFU.
You guys realize that Sam is a Braves fan, right?
Yes. And whining about the first bad year since the 1980's is ridiculous.
I always thought anytime your team is doing shitty would be a warranted time to whine. Why be content with mediocrity despite past success? This being said despite the fact I absolutely despise the Braves.

It's like a Yankees fan bitching about being in second place.

Besides the wild card, finishing 2nd doesn't mean shit. The objective in all of sports is to win. If that's not being done, I find it to be a reason to be upset.

If I wanna fucking bitch about our bullpen blowing seven fucking leads for John Smoltz among others than I fucking will!!!
It's so frustrating to watch this OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. So until I see some fucking improvement in our relief pitching I'm gonna continue to bitch about it...

I was wondering what moves the Braves could do to build for next year.....
1. Move Chipper to First base and get a power hitting third basman. I cannot stand Adam L.'s swing. Or keep Chipper on 3rd and pick up a big bat at 1st.
2. Do you trade Smoltz to a condender? I know he is a Brave and wants to be a Brave but he can come back in a year or two after the trade contract is over. Plus this gives him a chance to win another ring. The team that picks him up will most likely want him to be a closer. The league is hurting for closers.
3. The bullpen is a joke. Has been under Mazzone and still is today. Don't know what the answer is or will be.
4. They have to get a lead off hitter. Electromatic touched on this.
