I guess it makes sense to have a thread about this, right?
Looks like Carmelo Anthony's getting extended for about $16 million per season--he'll be even more overpaid than Shawn Marion. Melo's just about the most overrated player in the league methinks.
Terry appears to be resigning, that's good for the Mavs.
Looks like the "Tim Thomas might not be a douchebag afterall" hopes might be going down the drain:

tim thomas going to the Clippers will negate my newfound rooting interest in them.
Tim Thomas is a piece of shit loser. hes the biggest PUSSY in the entire NBA, only talks shit about people when hes injured and knows he wont play. fuck him.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the Clips will resign Radmanovic or even Cassell if they used the whole MLE on Thomas. Do they have Bird rights on Cassell?
im not sure but the la times is reporting the clips have now offered sam 12 mil. for 2 years.
Didn't that article you just posted suggest that the Tim Thomas offer was a result of Radmanovic and Cassell declining their offers? I'm trying to figure out what exactly what's going on... Rad's going to the Lakers, TT's going to the Clips... Does that mean the Suns get Cassell?

i have no idea. the two year 12 mil offer was reported yesterday, so i decided to check again today and i guess cassell and vlad will not be returning back to the clippers

Anthony is 22 years old, as a SF leads his team in almost every offensive catagory, and is statistically the most clutch player in the NBA. And in today's league he doesn't deserve a max contract? Whether or not the actual numbers are ridiculious, in the relative salary world of the NBA, you gotta sign Carmelo in this situation. I think you might need to watch a few more NBA games.

Cory
Draw double teams all game but only manages under three assists (and more turnovers), only manages five rebounds per game at 6'8", not a great defender... In a word, he's one-dimensional. Sure, he's made the clutch shots, but I'll take Lebron over Melo any day. I'd take Lebron over two Melos.
Edit: "as a SF leads his team in almost every offensive catagory"
Assists: Melo 2.7, Boykins 3.8
FT%: Melo 80%, Boykins 87%
3P%: Melo 24%, Boykins 35%
FG%: Melo 48%, Martin 49.5%
Every category, huh? I can think of one.

'Melo is the only consistent offensive threat on the Nuggets. I don't think he's overrated at all, he made some pretty big strides in his game last year.
I don't think you'll see anyone say he's better than Lebron, so I'm not sure why you brought that up.

Considering he's being offered the same deal as Lebron, I have every reason to bring that up. He's always considered the third best player in the 2003 draft, right behind Lebron and Wade, and people are always putting him on the level of those two players.
I agree that he's improved immeasurably this past season, but the fact still remains that he's a one-dimensional player who is an incredible scorer but not much of anything else. And scorers can be more easily replaced than rebounders, facilitators, etc. I have no problem with him being a franchise player, but his team is not going to amount to crap without the right pieces around him (unlike Lebron and Wade).
I just don't see how they can justify paying that type of player $16 million/season. I think the Suns made a major mistake in giving Marion that much, and he's a better all-around player than Carmelo.

who then are they going to build and market the team around? camby. good luck only having a player for 50 games. boykins? good luck on having your starting pg taken down on the low blocks for post ups ever single time.
remember, this kid melo is only 22-23 years old, hes only going to get better from here on out, he is the face of the nuggets and all the blame will be heaped on him when they lose, but the praise will be on the team, and he should be paid accordingly

I'd take Bosh over Carmelo.
So would I. Since we're talking about 2003 draftees, I'd even take Diaw over Carmelo, but some people might see that as pushing it.

I have no problem with them choosing Carmelo to build the team around (although I don't think he's able to elevate a team into contention like plenty of other players in the league), but paying him the same amount as Lebron is ridiculous. That's a huge risk, and of course while it might pay off if he gets better, there's still a reasonable chance that he stays a one-dimensional player and their stuck with a contract that totally kills their team for a few years. If I were a fan of that team, I would be a little nervous.
