I am a really avid baseball fan. I want this to be the place to discuss trades, free agency, trade rumors, etc.

So, first off.....how is your team doing this offseason

Mine (Red Sox) have made some pretty good deals by signing David Wells, Edgar Renteria and John Halama

The Phillies haven't done anything too drastic, but I like Leiber coming in a lot... Lofton may not make that big of an impact, but I think Leiber will... ANYBODY who has an ERA under 4 will be fine by me... I swear, we haven't had a decent starting pitcher since Schilling left

The Jays (I'm sure not too many people care) have done OK so far. They've got Hinske at first to replace Delgado and Koskie at third. Not TOO bad, though Delgado can't really be replaced. They could use...

a) shortstop
b) catcher (now that their top prospect is gone)
c) 1 or 2 starters (Clement would fit in well)
d) big changes in the bullpen.

I think their lineup looks really good though.

You can add Matt Clement to that mix.

Kudos for starting the condensed thread ;)

Parchy, if I remember right Larry Bowa was fired. Who is the new skipper?

Have you guys seen that trade with the Big-Unit? I think it is complete bullshit. That is the cheapest deal ever and somehow the Yankees are getting away with it. Granted, Javier Vazquez is a pretty good pitcher I think that him and two minor league shlubs for Randy Johnson is ludicrous.

Actually it is not done, and probably wont get done. Shawn Green, has a no trade clause, and unless Arizona offers him a silly upgrade to his contract, this deal won't happen.

I was dissapointed Tim Hudson went to the braves. I was kinda hoping he would stay in the American league, more specifically the yanks.

I was getting a little worried about the Sox rotation. But it is starting to take form and is looking as good, if not better than last year.

Schilling
Wells
Clement
Arroyo
Wakefield

By the way, fuck Pedro and his ridiculous comments about Curt Schilling, Theo and the Sox organization. He is a complete and total moron. Good luck Mets fans. He will bring you more distractions than anything else. He did it in Boston for 7 years.

I have to agree with everything here. Pedro has a 90% torn laybrum, reported by http://www.boston.com/sports and most likely will not last past two more years anyways without getting hurt. The only reason the Mets were dumb enough to make this move is because they needed an attraction. THey need something to take the presence of Steinbrenner's wallet off the front pages of the NY Papers. As for Randy Johnson to the Yankees. It won't happen because Sawn Green won't let it happen. I like the Sox rotation as well and they still have some bargaining chips in the minors and on the current roster that they can upgrade even more when and if the need is there.

Charlie Manuel is the new skipper... the old Indians coach... he's been accused of being too soft, but he garners a lot of respect in the clubhouse

And if I must, I will explain again why I'm a Phils fan and not an Eagles or Flyers fan...

I lived in Philly for 11 years, and by the time I lived there I'd already been a Cowboys fan, and a bad experience with Eric Lindros at a restaurant turned me off of the Flyers... since the the Eagles were rivals of the boys, I hated them more, and when I moved to Texas I naturally picked up following the Stars... however, whilst in Philly, I had no ties to any baseball teams (never got into the 'stros or the Rangers) and I went to tons and tons of Phillies games while I lived there... I got autographs from 13 members of the 1993 Phillies team that went to the Series (I can still name the starting roster that year including the pitchers, bullpen and who was on the bench off the top of my head) and I gained a lot of respect for Jim Fregosi and that whole franchise... whatever it takes dude...

So yeah, I'm a Phillies fan and I hate the Eagles... wanna fighddaboudit??? ;)
