definetly break in your skates, they'll be a bitch if you don't. Wear them around the house if you can't go skating. Most pads can be easily afforded, but don't go cheap on your skates. I played 2 years in youth rec leagues, and 5 years club. I can tell you it was worth every penny. Tons of fun. Just be sure to find a league of your skill level.

i've played hockey since i was 3 yrs old and played up to college and junior levels and i would say if you want to buy some used stuff to save money thats fine but as some people have said get new skates. as far as adult leagues there usually not well organized but a good time no less, i'd spend some time in open hockey which you can pretty much work all skills before moving to games.......hockeys such a fun underrated sport that people dont like cuz they dont understand it.....if you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask

What we did was find a gym we could rent for cheap and played floor hockey. We could always find lots of people to play, and just charged them a buck each to pay for the gym rental. Obviously not as fun as ice hockey, but we still had a blast

Mission Hockey skates. It's like you're wearing sneakers.
I've played my whole life.
It's tough for leagues, no matter where you play. You're gonna find assholes. you're gonna find guys who are realy really good will be playing in the d leagues or c leagues. and they will dominate. it's annoying as hell when you have an A player who runs around everybody just because he thinks he is cool.
As for gear just buy used stuff. Play it Again Sports is a great source. and unless you have to wear a visor. don;t
but that's just my take. Do whatever makes you have fun.

thanks ill look into those skates... from what ive read about league rules and such is that they are pretty strict about moving guys up if they are too good for the "c league"

Have you ever played before? The first year I played in a league was rec hockey at university when I was 19... I just bought all the cheapest stuff and I've done fine. Considering I started so late, I wouldn't really notice the slight difference in equipment... but I agree that good skates are a huge bonus.
