Derrek Lee signs huge 5 year contract. Scott Eyre gets big money for a middle reliever and is the premier lefty in the pen. The Cubs bowed out of the race for Rafael Furcal, with the Dodgers eventually winning him.

Tonight - Rafael Furcal bunts between Eyre and Lee. Eyre dives and flings the ball out of his glove toward Lee, but it goes over him, so Lee strays into the basepath and Furcal runs into him. Furcal is fine, Eyre hurt his leg/knee/back and left the game, and Lee hurt his wrist (most likely breaking it from what I could see) and also left the game.

I tell you, it's just fucking amazing. I think I'm going to go puke now.

Man, that really sucks. I mean, I'm a Cards fan and all, but I still hate to see this. I hope they're both OK.

If it was some random pussy like Jose Vidro or Mark Prior/Kerry Wood, I wouldn't be that worried. Lee rarely misses a game and plays through a lot, so when he's wincing and calling out trainers and leaves a game, I don't have much hope. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Update: right knee contusion for Eyre (doesn't this mean a scrape/cut/bruise?), "right wrist sprain" for Lee with "inconclusive x-rays". He's flying to Chicago, not St. Louis with the rest of the team......

Hopefully it's just a bone bruise for Lee and he'll miss 15 days or so.

Pfft. The Asstrokes finally get back to .500 as a franchise and then fall back right where they've been for the past 40 years.

Funny, I always hear that the "best fans in baseball" could be found St. Louis . . .

Speaking of, are you going to check out the new ballpark? I think we're trying to head down there in August.

cardfan is smarter, but cubfan is definitely more passionate... you have to be to go through what you do

Lee is as durable as it gets, I hope he's alright. He acknowledged me during the 2003 WS parade.

"You da man, Lee!"
