this is really getting re-god-damn-diculous. players are afraid to touch the QB. it's sad. when did the the QB become MR. glass. look how long the QB's 'lasted before this crackdown of calls. Vinny Testeverde is still in the league. yeah he's not playing but he is still in the league.

these guys are football players, they should be able to get hit just like any other player. I agree with shots to the head, call that. But is coming to a point where they might as well just make it two hand tocuh on the QB.

if he come out of the crease, and out of that stupid triangle box behind the goal, they should be able to get hit. i know you don;t agree. and i'm not saying body checked. But when Hasek flops around and they give the opposing team a penatly. that's BS also. the goalie should be able to get bumped if he comes outside of his "area"

Actually, I agree 100%. I think the goalie is just taking a risk by coming out... players will never really hit a goalie because he'll get the shit kicked out of him by someone, but it shouldn't be penalized if he's out of his crease.

Anyway, that's all I've got for now. Like I said, I don't know football enough to bother with this thread anymore.

It relates in that they're both positions that are protected by certain rules. I was just applying the same question to a situation that I understand better.

I'm not sure that I have even seen a warranted roughing the passer call in weeks. Pretty much every one of them that i've witnessed have been bad calls.

I think that's a pretty bad analogy. The QB and the goalie are nothing alike.

I definitely agree there have been some bullshit calls but overall, I like the direction the league is heading regarding this particular issue. Some of the hits the QB's of the past had to take were completely ridiculous and uncalled for...and they were legal. I think the calls will get better with time.

This is about offense more than anything. The no contact with the head at all is ridiculous. That call last night was absolutely unwarrented. They baby these guys, just put a fucking pink jersey on them.

The PI calls and the QB protection are completely about scoring because people like offense, WR's get away with everything.

If it were about protecting QB's really, they'd be issuing rules against rolling up their knees, If a guy gets back there unblocked, he absolutely should be able to blast the QB in the chest and drive him into the ground, no helmet to helmet, no roll ups, everything else should be like any other player.

If the multi million dollar QB is out for the season.... so be it. It happens to everyone but the Packers.

to help protect the qb and other skill positions, the NFL is considering using laser guns as a means to "tackle" with little to no chance of being hurt (except blindness)

Simms makes a good point - the ref should have the option to assess different penalties like they do with facemasks (5 yards or 15 yards).

PLayers have the QB in the grasp and let him go because they are afraid of "driving the QB into the ground". also and i'm not maing excuses, but it is BS, Reothelisberger aginst the BRowns after the INT, he gets pushed to the grouind twice. nobody lands on him, he just flops to the ground. we get a penalty for hitting the Qb. the guy is trying to make a tackle after an INT. He's no longer a QB, he is a defender.

its not the actual rule of roughing the QB as it is WHAT gets called as roughing.

the QB is the most vulnerable player on the field...who else just basically stands still unguarded and immoble to a point

if a QB throws a pass and gets hit afterwards or a real cheap shot is taken, I have no problem with it. but the shit that gets called these days is a joke, like when a defender is already in mid tackle or has left his feet towards a QB and the QB throws, and the guy is expected to change his direction in midair, thats the stuff that gets called and never ever should

this is the nfl, money is no object. Plus...merchandising.

i remember five years ago when the only time roughing the passer was called was when there was a late hit. Ah the good old days
