I didn't get to see this until tonight. Anyone else catch it?
MFS-trained Spencer Fisher is climbing his way up the lightweight ranks. I think they are going to give him a legitimate test in his next UFC fight. My coach was out in Iowa training with the Miletich camp a couple of weeks ago and he was saying that Spencer made him throw up while they were sparring, haha.
It looks like Cheick Kongo isn't going to be the next big thing in the heavy division that everyone predicted he would be a few months ago. His wrestling looked pretty sloppy, but Marrero has superb wrestling asbility, especially for a heavyweight. A very impressive UFC debut for Carmelo.
I'm liking Jon Fitch a lot. He has a great attitude and I really like his style. It appears that Diego Sanchez is fighting Joe Riggs next month, and Karo Parysian will be taking on Jake Shields. As if he hasn't already earned the next shot after GSP, a victory over Riggs will solidify Diego as the #1 contender. I'd like to see Fitch take out the Karo/Shields winner and get his shot after hughes or GSP make an example out of Diego.
Sherk and Florian went pretty much as I predicted. K-Flo is definitely a warrior, though. He wasn't giving up for shit. He just couldn't get a real advantage over someone as powerful as Sherk. But he stuck with his gameplan - high kicks in neutral, elbows in close and look for the opening on the ground. Can I also add that I'm really pissed off that Kenny chose Ennio Morricone's Ecstasy of Gold for his entrance music? No joke...like 4 weeks ago I said that that song would be my music, and the stranger thing is that I planned on starting the song at the exact point he did. What I don't plan on doing is coming out in some goofy-ass samurai outfit.
Looks like we have a new middleweight champion. I don't see a 185 pounder in all of MMA who will be able to out-Muay Thai Silva. The Spider has some serious length, heavy hands and (as Rich Franklin will attest to) some dangerous knees. He was beating the shit out of his body, and when he landed that one knee right to the chin, it was just a matter of time before Ace went down. I can't imagine what that must've been like for him. I was actually glad to see him go down. His attitude has been very different lately. His nose was mangled and bent sideways.
I'm really looking forward to the PRIDE ppv next week. What a fantastic card.
Man, the small amount of people that follow MMA on RM is truly disappointing.
I'd watch it if it wasn't ppv and it didn't take 3hrs. There is not near enough action in one of the UFC ppv events for me to justify the cost. I could go to my local Boston Pizza and watch it there but I would be seriously trashed if I had to sit in a bar for 3hrs.
I have the fight network in Canada. I record all of the Pride and K1 fights on my PVR. It takes me about 30 minutes to skim through a Pride show skipping commercials, banter and much of the ground fighting. If The Fight Network played UFC I'd do the same but it doesn't so I don't.
I really should start downloading them though. Anyone know of a good site for MMA torrents? PM me if you wouldn't mind.

I went to bee-dub for it with some friends. This was my second one, and it was way more brutal than the last...that guy's nose just got DESTROYED. Also, there was an amazing (to me) amount of blood.
I am diggin' it though. I was a pro wrestling fan as a kid, and this is a lot better; not just because of the real vs. fake thing either.

I can see Franklin taking his title back whenever he gets his rematch. Other than that, unless they pull in a fighter from outside the UFC, Swick would be the next real contender. He's got good strikes, not as good as Silva, but good. That would be an interesting fight.
Too bad about Kongo... He really did look impressive in his first UFC fight. I'd like to see Marrero fight Arlovski.
And I'm not a fan of either Sherk or Florian... so I definitely hope to see Spencer Fisher make his way up the ladder.
Check this out, UFC is trying to bring Lindland in to fight Silva:
Quote:
GracieFighter.com is reporting that the UFC has contacted Matt “The Law†Lindland and they’re offering him a middleweight title fight against newly crowned champion Anderson Silva.
Inside sources have informed us that the UFC has contacted Matt Lindland to face their new Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva.
So far the UFC’s offers have been considered less than generous compared to what the WFA and IFC have offered him. For Matt to fight in the UFC he will have to completely relinquish fighting in other organizations and he would like to be compensated accordingly.
There will be meetings between Matt and the UFC in the upcoming days to see if these issues can be resolved and if a Anderson Silva vs. Matt Lindland fight can become a reality.
Sounds dope. Swick has earned his shot, but he isn't ready for it. Nathan Marquardt is in the mix too. I think Lindland has a greater shot at taking out The Spider than any other middleweight in the world.

I want the UFC to do another tournament format PPV like they did when it first started. Throw them all in there, Huges, Arlovsky, Liddell, Silva etc...
They won't do that, but I'd still like to see Matt Huges vs. Tim Sylvia and Arlovsky vs. Liddell

My old roommate did MMA and was a beast. I never saw him in competition but I did see him kick someone's ass in a bar fight. Maybe he was good because he's a felon who spent like 4 yrs in state prison and was tough enough to survive while having a huge swatstika tattooed on his back.

did anyone see this last night?
George St. Pierre TKO'd Matt Hughes in the second round
yeah. that was pretty awesome. i've been pulling for gsp since he went right through frank trigg a couple of years ago. i enjoyed seeing hughes get his ass kicked, cause he was just starting to get a little too cocky for my tastes. that vicious knockout via kick to the thigh was pretty sweet too. i don't remember who the fighters were though. the sylvia/monson fight was just what i expected. sylvia is such a bitch. he just uses his reach to throw jabs and never takes an aggressive stance towards the fight unless he's severely mismatched with someone of much less talent.

yeah, i think he was just in another world after getting popped a little too hard in the chin. he looked like he was going to the floor for some jujitsu training or something. weird.
This was actually UFC 65. This thread is from last month's card with Rich Franklin and Anderson Silva. I just retitled the UFC 65 thread, and it should be on the front page.
