Matt Hughes is probably my favorite athlete in the world today. This is going to be a real test for him and I'm concerned that he will go down. I like GSP a lot, but Hughes is my man. If farm boy can pull this off again, then it is a fact - there is not a welterweight in the world who can beat him.

I was going to order this, but am getting Pacman-Morales 3 instead. I hope who ever wins kicks the shit out of Matt Serra, I hate that guy.

Serra doesn't stand a chance against either of them

This fight is goign to be goofy as shit.

You have Sylvia - 6'8" 265, lanky, long reach, striker vs.
Monson - 5'9" 240, ripped up, submission fighter

I really hope Monson wins, but the odds aren't in his favor. I hate Sylvia. He is the only fighter out of the Miletich camp who I don't like.

Wow, so the tall dude just knocks people around and the fireplug wants to engage and wrestle. I'd love to watch it but not for that price. Do they ever replay those for cheaper?

Yea, it's going to be a really interesting battle. If it goes to the mat, Monson chokes him out, no doubt. But the question is...can he really penetrate a reach like that?

I'm not sure if the replays are any cheaper because I've never ordered them. I'm a die-hard, so I look forward to these things every month.

Really good PPV.

I'm a little dissapointed that Mishima lost, and Monson didn't put an end to Sylvia's abysmal title reign. But Nick Diaz winning, and GSP taking the belt was a nice consolation for that.

It was shocking how GSP dominated him the way he did... but Hughes' time was up. Now we're left to look forward to Diego vs. Hughes, so long as Hughes' doesn't get his rematch right away.

Matt Hughes is my hero. I've never admired an MMA fighter more than him...ever. His whole outlook on fighting is so fascinating, and I've always been a fan of guys who are wrestlers at heart. When you think about the UFC welterweight division, it has always been all about Matt Hughes. He has been so dominant and the question was always "who the hell is going to beat him?"

But I have to hand it to GSP. That was beyond impressive. He absolutely owned Matt Hughes for two rounds, arguably had him finished more than once, and had an answer for everything Hughes threw at him (which wasn't much). I watched this fight with a room full of people who wanted GSP to win, and I just had to suck it up and realize that the guy just met his maker. Will there be a rubber match? I don't know, and I honestly don't give a shit if Hughes were to lose to him for a second time. Hughes is a legend, and the greatest UFC fighter there ever was. I don't know what is up for him next. It will be interesting to see what they throe at him. He's not done...he knows this. The annoying thing is that everyone is going to be jumping on GSP's balls, and I've liked him since the first time I saw him fight in the UFC.

I know I talked about Hughes more than anything in this post, but take my word for it, this is all out of respect for GSP - someone who just ground and pounded my favorite athlete in the world. He's the man right now, and you really have to wonder who is going to come remotely close to beating him at this point.

kev, you're right. Great ppv, no doubt. As usual, Tim Sylvia's fight sucked ass (everyone I was with was pulling for Monson and we were on our feet when he had that guillotine).

I like Stevenson a lot. As I stated before, I love wrestlers. I was glad he won. There was a lot of good stuff on the card tonight. Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard anyone get booed after a victory the way that Timmmmmmahhhh did tonight.

I went over my cousins house to watch this ppv and saw 3 fights. for some reason we did not see the 2 big fights. We watched 3 and it was over. the first was some stocky dude vs a guy from boston. blood everywhere. boston nerd clocked dude with an elbow that split him open and they went 5 rounds pretty much on the mat. the next was 2 little dudes, one with long hair that kicked the shit out of his opponent and put him in a submission hold. the third was a brazilian vs a dude who was supposed to be a badass. the brazillian kneed him in the face about 10 times and crushed his nose. after that we were ecpecting the fights talked about on here. the monson fight and the other. next thing we know they are rolling credits. wtf happened? did we buy the wrong ppv?

oh, i forgot to mention...my cousin who rented the fight and knew all these guys used to train at the gracie school. he said that he used to have to fight hoyce gracie and said the guy is an absolute maniac. he said basically that they would box for a little and then he would get them on the ground and demolish them. he said he was not even big or seem that tough and would basically bend you into a pretzel in like .5 seconds. I thought it was pretty cool that he was involved in it.

After our grandpop died and he was all drunk he had me fighting him on my aunts lawn trying to pull these moves on me. he is my little cousin so I obliged (sp?) him. he was agressive but I had alot of weight on him and natural strength so he didnt do much but my family stopped it after a few minutes. pretty funny.

Was anyone else pumped when Monson came out to Imagine? That was really something.

Alright, I don't want to sounds like a hater...Sylvia is something like 24-2 and he is the UFC world champion, so he's gotta be doing something right. But I am really starting to get frustrated with the fact that he is the man at heavyweight in the promotion. No need to mention all of the PRIDE heavies who can do a number on him, I'm aware. But when Tim Sylvia isn't the kind of fighter to give a fuck if he finishes someone or not, and he is content with landing a couple of jabs a round to get barely enough points to take the round, I really can't believe he is the champ. He literally feared Monson's ground game and pretty much didn't try to finish him once. In the fifth round he didn't do a thing because he knew he was up 3 rounds to 1. It's like all he does is keep his opponents at bay and use that enormous reach for when they make a mistake. Monson pretty much did 100% of the work. Yea, Sylvia did put the panic button on when Monson was going for the choke, so props to him for managing an escape there. I have never heard a world champion receive boos like that after a fight. It's as if his only weapon was his length.

Again, I don't want to sound like a hater. The guy did beat Arlovski, which no one expected him to do. I don't like saying this, but I think he is a terrible representation of a world champion.

WAR VERA!!!
