Fight Network's John Ramdeen catches up with Patrick Cote ahead of his return to the UFC at UFC 148 vs. Cung Le.

**Claude Patrick is the latest casualty of the UFC 149 injury riddled card and has pulled out of his welterweight bout with James Head. Patrick will be replaced by Brian Ebersole, who just fought on June 22nd at the UFC on FX 3 card defeating TJ Waldburger.

**The UFC has announced their first card for China set for November 10th in Macau at The Venetian Macau Resort Hotel and will air on FUEL TV. This is a major breakthrough for the company as both the UFC and WWE have been in a race to get into the country and the WWE held a small show last summer in the country but it was part of a larger event and designed as a showcase for the company to officials in China.

**and tonight...IT'S ON

**Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission spoke with MMAFighting.com and state that no complaint has been filed as of yet on behalf of Chael Sonnen and stated that it would be very tough for Sonnen to prove any wrongdoing and getting anything out of a complaint to the commission. It was Sonnen’s coach Scott McQuarry that stated Monday he was pushing for a complaint to be filed on the basis that Anderson Silva was aiming his knee for the head of Sonnen and also grabbed the fence to further the force of the knee, which is illegal. Kizer also told MMAFighting that he was very disappointed with the actions of Silva all week from the shoulder strike at the weigh-ins to the incident involving the Vaseline prior to the fight (where Silva rubbed part of the substance onto his body from his face but was wiped off by official Yves Lavigne prior to the start of the fight) and stated he would be fine if Silva’s next few fights were not within the state of Nevada.

**Veja Magazine out of Brazil is reporting that this past Saturday’s UFC 148 card headlined by Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen drew 19-million viewers on the Globo Network in Brazil. The network ran the card on a free thirty-minute delay and the audience would be the highest the UFC has ever drawn on Globo.

**Despite an underwhelming set of preliminary fights at UFC 148 on Saturday night the undercard drew well on FX averaging 1,800,000 viewers for the two-hour prelim broadcast headlined by Melvin Guillard Vs Fabricio Camoes. The figure was the highest the UFC has drawn for their prelim broadcasts since moving to the FOX family this past January.

**The UFC has announced a middleweight bout between Chris Camozzi and Buddy Roberts for the UFC 150 card set for August 11th in Denver, Colorado headlined by Benson Henderson Vs Frankie Edgar in a rematch for the Lightweight Title.

**The annual UFC fighter summit wraps up today in Las Vegas and has been hilarious reading some of the tweets from fighter's in attendance, who are bored out of their mind at these all day meetings. One of the bigger news items coming out of the summit is that the UFC health care plan will now include pre-existing conditions.

**Glenn Robinson, the manager of Rashad Evans spoke to MMAJunkie.com on Tuesday and said Evans has no plans of cutting down to 185-pounds at the moment after rumours were circulating that he could make a bid for the middleweight title against Anderson Silva.

**A light heavyweight bout between Quinton Jackson and Glover Teixeira has been announced for UFC 153 for October 13th in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Jackson has one fight left on his contract and will be entering enemy territory for what could be his final fight with the organization against the highly touted Teixeira. In Teixeira’s UFC he submitted Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146 and was then the subject of controversy where the UFC wanted Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua to fight Texieira and Shogun and his camp turned the fight down.

**Here are the results from the UFC on FUEL 4 event held Wednesday night in San Jose, California in front of a reported crowd of 4,250 and a live gate of $163,495:
*Rafael Assuncao over Issei Tamura by TKO at 0:25 of Round 2
*Marcelo Guimaraes over Dan Stittgen by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Andrew Craig over Rafael Natal by KO at 4:52 of Round 2
*Chris Cariaso over Josh Ferguson by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Alex Caceres over Damacio Page by triangle choke at 1:27 of Round 2
*Rafael Dos Anjos over Anthony Njokuani by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*T.J. Dillashaw over Vaughan Lee by rear-naked choke at 2:33 of Round 1
*Francis Carmont over Karlos Vemola by rear-naked choke at 1:39 of Round 2
*Aaron Simpson over Kenny Robertson by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*James Te Huna over Joey Beltran by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
*Chris Weidman over Mark Munoz by TKO at 1:27 of Round 2

**The card averaged 200,000 viewers with a peak of 291,000 viewers for the main event between Weidman and Munoz.

**The following $40,000 bonuses were handed out after the show:
*Fight of the Night – James Te Huna Vs Joey Beltran
*Knockout of the Night – Chris Weidman
*Submission of the Night – Alex Caceres

**It was revealed after the card that James Te Huna broke his hand and foot in that dominant opening round, where he threw 71 significant strikes, which is a UFC record for most significant strikes in one round for a light heavyweight bout.

**UFC President Dana White confirmed to USA Today that the coaches for the next season of TUF will be heavyweights Roy Nelson (who won Season 10 of the show) and Shane Carwin. The next season will be taped in advance as opposed to the live format they experimented with for FX in the most recent season.

**Meanwhile the next international version of TUF entitled ‘The Smashed’ pitting Team U.K. against Team Australia will be coached by Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos and will begin taping shortly.

**In the lead up to UFC 149 next weekend in Calgary Fight Network will be carrying next Thursday’s press conference live at 2pm EST and the weigh-ins on Friday at 6pm EST.

**A lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard has been announced for August 11th at UFC 150 in Denver, Colorado underneath the Benson Henderson Vs Frankie Edgar rematch for the UFC Lightweight Title.

**The UFC has added two more bouts to the September 22nd UFC 152 card set for the Air Canada Centre in Toronto with Joseph Benavidez meeting Demetrious Johnson to crown the very first UFC Flyweight Champion and a middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Brian Stann. The UFC had already announced a welterweight bout between the returning BJ Penn and Rory MacDonald for that card.

**It was revealed on Friday that UFC light heavyweight Forrest Griffin was the latest fighter to be granted a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testosterone replacement therapy for his bout with Tito Ortiz last Saturday at UFC 148. Griffin is 34-years old and showed noticeably signs of fatigue during his fight with Ortiz. This debate is only going to intensify because it’s not an open and shut ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer but rather a philosophical debate over what the modern athlete should or should not be allowed to use as technology and medicine rapidly increases. There is the one camp that feels the use of artificial testosterone (the base chemical of steroids) should be banned from the sport while others believe it is no different than a golfer having laser eye surgery to have perfect 20/20 vision and if medicine and remedies are available why should an athlete be exempt from the benefits of medicine? Let’s make one thing clear though and that is Griffin did not break any rules and went about obtaining a TUE the proper way and tested within the state’s allowable ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone and if you have a problem it’s a problem with the system and not the athlete in this case. Last weekend’s card featured a number of fighters attached to TRT with Shane Roller on the undercard getting off of TRT for his fight and showing no signs of any issues in his victory while Chael Sonnen was on TRT for his fight with Silva and appeared his weight cutting if nothing else played more of a factor on his conditioning than anything.

**The NSAC also announced on Friday that all drug tests from UFC 148 last weekend came back clean.

Image
**TMZ reports that Dave Bautista has signed on to have his first professional MMA bout on October 6th of this year for CES MMA against unknown fighter Rashid Evans (not Rashad). The event is set to take place in Providence, Rhode Island at the Dunkin’ Donuts Theatre. Bautista has been talking about fighting since leaving the WWE in May 2010 and was very close to signing with Strikeforce right as Zuffa purchased the company and was not interested in pursuing those talks. Bautista had been offered giant money to fight for small promotions in the past with one company I was aware of offering over six-figures for his first fight but he was not interested at the time.

**Tatame is reporting that former M-1 Light Heavyweight Champion and TUF Season 8 finalist Vinny Magalhaes has been signed by the UFC following the expiration of his deal with M-1 that ended with bad feelings on both sides. Magalhaes put his M-1 title up for auction on eBay when he wasn’t being booked for fights and the two sides let the deal run out. Magalhaes had also been working with Chael Sonnen prior to his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 148.

**The UFC 149 press conference took place earlier today and aired live on Fight Network. UFC President Dana White shot down the idea of Hector Lombard fighting Mark Munoz if he wins Saturday night and said Munoz is coming off a loss and that wouldn’t make sense. Lombard has said the day prior he would turn down a title shot to fight Munoz over something Munoz said about him. White also said that Joe Silva and he have been going over numerous ideas for future middleweight fights with so many contenders emerging and will have an announcement after the card Saturday night. White also said if the UFC were to add another division they would consider a 115-pound division, which seems like a big mistake as they are having trouble gaining traction with the 145, 135 and 125 divisions right now and adding any more divisions at this point seems too much at the present.

**The UFC’s return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 13th will be headlined by Jose Aldo defending the Featherweight Title against Erik Koch, which was slated to be the main event for this Saturday’s card in Calgary but fell apart when Aldo was injured in training. This will be Aldo’s second fight in Brazil this year after he stopping Chad Mendes with one second remaining in the opening round of their title bout at UFC 142 in January.

**A lightweight bout between Evan Dunham and T.J. Grant and a light heavyweight fight between the returning Vinny Magalhaes and Igor Pokrajac have been added to the UFC 152 card in Toronto on September 22nd.

**A welterweight bout between Jake Ellenberger and Josh Koscheck has been announced for the September 1st UFC 151 card in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both are coming off of losses with Ellenberger being stopped by Martin Kampmann at the TUF Live Finale in June and Koscheck dropping his last bout to Johny Hendricks by split decision at the UFC on FOX 3 card.

**This past Saturday’s Strikeforce event in Portland, Oregon headlined by Luke Rockhold defeating Tim Kennedy averaged 420,000 viewers on Showtime in the U.S.

**Here are the results from the UFC 149 event held Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 16,089 at the ScotiaBank Saddledome and doing a record $4,100,000 gate at the venue.
*Anton Kuivanen over Mitch Clarke by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Antonio Carvalho over Daniel Pineda by KO at 1:11 of Round 1
*Bryan Caraway over Mitch Gagnon by rear-naked choke at 1:39 of Round 3
*Ryan Jimmo over Anthony Perosh by KO at 0:07 of Round 1
*Francisco Rivera over Roland Delorme by KO at 4:19 of Round 1
*Nick Ring over Court McGee by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Matt Riddle over Chris Clements by arm-triangle choke at 2:02 of Round 3
*James Head over Brian Ebersole by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Cheick Kongo over Shawn Jordan by unanimous decision (30-28, 30-27, 30-27)
*Tim Boetsch over Hector Lombard by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Renan Barao over Urijah Faber by unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46)

**The following $65,000 bonuses were handed out after the event:
*Fight of the Night – Bryan Caraway Vs Mitch Gagnon
*Knockout of the Night – Ryan Jimmo
*Submission of the Night – Matt Riddle

**At the post fight press conference it was revealed that Tim Boetsch broke his foot in the second round and therefore Dana White could not make any announcements regarding the middleweight title picture or any future fights involving the top contenders at the weight class because of that monkey wrench being thrown into the picture. Dana White was furious about the officiating in particular Josh Rosenthal mistaking Matt Riddle’s body kick with a low blow to Chris Clements and Yves Lavigne not separating Cheick Kongo and Shawn Jordan during their clinch battle for three-rounds. Kongo later spoke with Karyn Bryant from MMA Heat and confirmed he had injuries to both shoulders going into the fight and severely affected his performance.

**Matt Riddle was the highlight of the post fight press conference stating he wants to fight Dan Hardy next (though Hardy is already booked to fight Amir Sadollah on September 29th in Notthingham) and cut an awesome promo on a random British fan that spit at him on his way to the cage for his UFC 105 fight against Nick Osipczak in November 2009 in Birmingham:

**MMA Junkie was the first to report that Strikeforce had signed Tim Sylvia to fight Daniel Cormier on September 29th in Sacramento, California. Sylvia has not fought for Zuffa since February of 2008 when his contract expired and the UFC opted not to re-sign him at the terms he requested and signed with Affliction where he headlined the promotion’s first pay-per-view losing in 0:36 to Fedor Emelianenko. It was after the Emelianenko fight that he was humbled with a 0:09 knockout loss to aging former boxer Ray Mercer and since that time has won seven of his last eight fights and has been campaigning heavily on Twitter to come back to the UFC with fans flooding Dana White’s account on a daily basis. White was asked if Sylvia was coming back after the press conference on Thursday.

Since the story came out White has responded on The Underground that Sylvia is NOT in fact signed by Strikeforce so this one continues to develop.

**Here is an interesting chat with Dana White discussing a number of topics including his picks for the top five promoters of all-time and where he ranks against Vince McMahon and Don King.

**Dana White spoke to members of the media after the UFC 149 press conference on Thursday and among the topics discussed White stated that they are hoping to match Cung Le with Rich Franklin on November 10th on their first card in China depending on how Le’s foot heals after some bone bruising that Le sustained in his fight with Patrick Cote at UFC 148. White also noted that they will be returning to Seattle later this year but could not remember if it is for a pay-per-view or a television card. White also confirmed that no Strikeforce fighters are allowed to come over to the UFC during the duration of Zuffa’s deal with Showtime even if their Strikeforce contracts expire. This was originally reported by Dave Meltzer this past Sunday on ‘Wrestling Observer Radio’ and White receiving the news second hand and denying the deal but later clarified that he had not received the exact wording of what Meltzer had reported and he was in fact correct about the inability to move talent over to the UFC.

**A lightweight bout between Daron Cruickshank and Henry Martinez has been added to the UFC 151 card on September 1st in Las Vegas, Nevada.

**UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones appeared in court this morning stemming from DUI charge this past May. Jones had previously pled guilty to the charge and was fined $1,000 today as well as having his driver’s license suspended for six-months and will also have to pay to have the telephone pole he repaired that he crashed into. Jones will also have to pass an on the spot breathalyser test to operate any of his vehicles once he can drive again.

**UFC President Dana White announced on the UFC conference call yesterday that the winner of the Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Vs Brandon Vera fight would receive the next Light Heavyweight Title shot but later in the day changed his stance and said that whoever wins in the most impressive fashion in that fight or the Lyoto Machida Vs Ryan Bader fight will receive the title shot.

**The Nevada State Athletic Commission has released the figures for UFC 148 this past month headlined by Anderson Silva Vs Chael Sonnen. The card drew an announced crowd of 15,104 and a new U.S. gate record for the company of $6,900,000 at the MGN Grand Garden Arena (second in company history to UFC 129 in Toronto in April 2011 at the Rogers Centre) with tickets scaled at their highest level in UFC’s history at the venue.

**Nick Diaz trainer Cesar Gracie announced Friday night that despite retirement talk Diaz will in fact fight again (shocking) and is looking to fight Anderson Silva by moving up to 185-pounds.

**The upstart all women’s promotion Invicta FC held their second event on Saturday night from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Missouri. The event was hit with streaming issues throughout the first hour or so but for those that saw it the show delivered very strongly (the company also posted the majority of the fourteen fights on YouTube immediately afterwards). The main event was excellent between undefeated Olympic silver medallist Sara McMann and Shayna Baszler. The judges all awarded the fight to McMann with two having it 29-28 (completely justifiable scores) and one having it 30-27 for McMann, which is insane because I cannot see anyway how you give the second round to McMann. Below are the complete results from the card on Saturday night:
*Liz McCarthy over Jessica Philippus by TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage at the end of Round 1
*Jocelyn Lybarger over Cheryl Chan by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Jessamyn Duke over Suzie Montero by TKO at 2:32 of Round 3
*Raquel Pennington over Sarah Moras by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc over Angelica Chavez by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Carla Esparza over Sarah Schneider by TKO at 4:28 of Round 2
*Julia Budd over Elina Nilsson by KO at 3:49 of Round 1
*Barb Honchak over Bethany Marshall by TKO at 1:22 of Round 2
*Sarah D’Alelio over Vanessa Porto by armbar at 3:16 of Round 1
*Amanda Nunes over Raquel Pa’aluhi by rear-naked choke at 2:24 of Round 1
*Ayaka Hamanaka over Lacey Schuckman by armbar at 4:45 of Round 3
*Liz Carmouche over Kaitlin Young by rear-naked choke at 3:34 of Round 1
*Alexis Davis over Hitomi Akano by rear-naked choke at 3:41 of Round 2
*Sara McMann over Shayna Baszler by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

**It is expected that Sara McMann will fight Alexis Davis at the next Invicta FC event in October to crown the first Bantamweight Champion for the promotion.

**John Alessio has been cut by the UFC following losses to Mark Bocek and Shane Roller in the lightweight division during this most recent campaign with the organization.

**Eddie Alvarez will fight Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire at the October 12th Bellator event in Windsor, Ontario in the final fight of Alvarez’s current contract with Bellator.

**Matt Mitrione and Rob Broughton will fight on October 5th at the UFC on FX 5 event in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The two were scheduled to fight this weekend on the undercard of the FOX card but Broughton had visa issues and could not get into the country in time. That FX card will be headlined by Travis Browne taking on Antonio Silva. A flyweight bout between John Dodson and Jussier da Silva has also been added to this card.

**Wallid Ismail has announced on Twitter that his fighter Erick Silva will be fighting Jon Fitch at UFC 153 on October 13th in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

**On Thursday it was announced that both BJ Penn and Rory MacDonald have agreed to be tested throughout their training camps by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) prior to their fight at UFC 152 in Toronto on September 22nd. The two will be subjected to numerous blood and urine tests with unannounced testing throughout the eight-weeks leading up the fight and results will be forwarded to the UFC, Ontario Athletic Commission and Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC). Because of a policy within the Ontario Athletic Commission they were not going to be drug testing the UFC fighters on the card and therefore the UFC will be doing their own in-house testing. One of the key differences with VADA is that they use the Carbon Isotobe Ratio (CIR) test, which can detect synthetic testosterone in a fighter’s system as opposed to a urine test that simply detects a T/E ratio. It was revealed in a case earlier this year with boxer Lamont Peterson than he had a ratio of 3.77/1 and therefore passed a commission test but the CIR test revealed he had synthetic testosterone in his system.

**David Dinkins of Showtime Sports appeared on ‘The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo’ on Thursday and confirmed that the Daniel Cormier Vs Frank Mir fight will take place in October and not the September 29th event in Sacramento, California.

**With Ben Rothwell pulling out of the FOX card this weekend his opponent Travis Browne has been moved to the UFC on FX 5 card set for October 5th in Minneapolis, Minnesota and will fight Antonio Silva in the main event of that card. Browne is 13-0-1 and with a win would be elevated to the title picture while Silva is coming off a devastating loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 where Silva was dominated by the ground and pound of Velasquez.

**Due to the Rothwell Vs Browne and Matt Mitrione Vs Rob Broughton fights being scrapped from the UFC on FOX 4 card the UFC will not be doing any Facebook fights that night. The lone Facebook fight involving Ulysses Gomez and John Moraga has been moved to the FUEL TV prelim broadcast. You will get zero complaints out of me over no Facebook fights, I find it completely unnecessary and often frustrating to tell your audience to go to three different outlets to watch one card throughout the night. It’s 2012 where anything broadcast should be in HD and not on a Facebook stream that does small numbers and serves little purpose in my opinion by sending people to an outside social media outlet where the UFC generates nothing but a small presence from.

**BJ Penn has taken to Twitter and challenged Rory MacDonald to fight him at UFC 153 on October 13th in Rio de Janiero, Brazil rather than wait until UFC 154 on November 17th in Montreal. MacDonald suffered a major cut in training over the weekend that pulled him from their September 22nd fight at UFC 152 in Toronto with MacDonald’s camp asking Penn to fight in November instead.

**Fight Network will be carrying the UFC 150 press conference live this Thursday at 3pm EST featuring John Ramdeen, Robin Black and myself providing pre and post analysis and chatting the full card for this Saturday in Denver. Fight Network will also be carrying the weigh-ins live at 6pm EST this Friday night.

**Diego Sanchez has announced on Twitter that he moving back to lightweight. Sanchez challenged for the UFC Lightweight Title back in December of 2009 and following that loss to BJ Penn moved to welterweight, where he had competed at previously. Sanchez is coming off a decision loss to Jake Ellenberger this past February.

**UFC Featherweight Chad Mendes could be facing some severe trouble following a brawl that erupted at a bar late last Saturday. The story alleges that Mendes got into a fight outside of a bar and when police tried to step in more people from the bar spilled out and turned into a brawl involving forty people. Mendes was said to be intoxicated and mouthing off to the officers and when told to leave he went back into the bar and sucker punched a patron before fleeing the scene and could not be found.

**The following statement was released over the weekend from MMA Incorporated, which is the management team of Chad Mendes regarding the brawl:

On Friday afternoon, Chad Mendes was shocked and surprised by the allegations contained in an article published on an Internet news site. While Chad acknowledges that an incident occurred last Saturday in Hanford, he contends that the majority of the facts pertaining to him in the story are absolutely false. Attempts were immediately made by Chad's representatives to contract personnel at the Sheriff's Department on Friday afternoon. Despite those repeated attempts, Chad's representatives have not received any response from the Sheriff's Department as of the time of this release. Chad denies any wrongdoing and is very upset by the allegations contained in this story. He will fully cooperate with the Sheriff's Department and looks forward to clearing his name.

**Dana White spoke to Karyn Bryant this week and stated that UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva would not fight until next year.

**Matt Hamill has ended his one-year retirement and will return to the UFC on September 22nd in Toronto to take on newcomer Roger ‘The Hulk’ Hollett. Hollett has competed for various promotions in Canada such as the MFC and Ringside MMA and debuted for Bellator last fall where he qualified for the upcoming Light Heavyweight tournament but then signed with the UFC. The UFC has also added a bantamweight bout to the Toronto card with Mitch Gagnon taking on Walel Watson.

**Here are the full results from the UFC on FOX 4 card held on Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in front of 16,080 (a number that was likely heavily papered as the paid attendance was about half of that a week out from the show and there were stories going out that tickets were easy to come by in the market) and a live gate of $1,100,000.
*John Moraga over Ulysses Gomez by KO at 3:46 of Round 1
*Manny Gamburyan over Michihiro Omigawa by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Phil De Fries over Oli Thompson by rear-naked choke at 4:16 of Round 2
*Rani Yahya over Josh Grispi by north-south choke at 3:15 of Round 1
*Phil Davis and Wagner Prado ended in a no contest following an accidental eye poke to Prado in the first round
*Nam Phan over Cole Miller by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Mike Swick over DaMarques Johnson by KO at 1:20 of Round 2
*Joe Lauzon over Jamie Varner by triangle choke at 2:44 of Round 3
*Lyoto Machida over Ryan Bader by KO at 1:32 of Round 2
*Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua over Brandon Vera by TKO at 4:09 of Round 4

**Here are the $50,000 bonuses that were handed out after the card Saturday:
*Fight of the Night – Joe Lauzon Vs Jamie Varner
*Submission of the Night – Joe Lauzon
*Knockout of the Night – Mike Swick

**Following the main event Dana White announced on FOX that Lyoto Machida would receive the next Light Heavyweight Title shot against the winner of the Jon Jones Vs Dan Henderson fight that takes place at UFC 151 on September 1st. Machida last fought Jon Jones at UFC 140 last December in Toronto and was submitted in the second round and has never fought Henderson.

**Jamie Varner broke his right hand in the second round of his fight with Joe Lauzon.

**Cung Le will fight Rich Franklin in the main event of the November 10th UFC debut card in Macau, China. The two were scheduled to fight at UFC 148 this past July but Franklin was moved from that card to fight Wanderlei Silva on the UFC 147 card when Vitor Belfort was injured and Le fought Patrick Cote instead. This fight would be a middleweight bout and would be Franklin’s first fight back at 185-pounds since moving to light heavyweight in 2008 (Franklin had fought at 205 earlier in his career as well).

**UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos met with Dana White on Friday and is angling for a title defence against Alistair Overeem rather than Cain Velasquez in his next fight. Dos Santos is taking the position that he doesn’t like Overeem and wants to knock him out. There are many problems attached to this with Overeem failing a random drug test this past spring conducted by the Nevada State Athletic Commission with an elevated T/E ratio and cannot reapply for a license until December 27th of this year. That would mean this fight would not be able to take place until the first quarter of 2013 at the earliest and leaves Velasquez on the sidelines after a dominant victory over Antonio Silva at UFC 146.

**Dana White said during the post show press conference that they are considering re-matching Phil Davis and Wagner Prado at the UFC on FX 5 card on October 5th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

**Here is an insane finish from friday night’s XFC 19 event in Charlotte featuring one-armed fighter Nick Newell knocking out David Mays with Michael Schiavello and Pat Miletich calling the action:

Spoiler: show
YOU CRAZY, ONE ARMED BASTARD!!!

**Here are the results from the Strikeforce ‘Rousey Vs Kaufman’ card held in San Diego, California last night:
*Bobby Green over Matt Ricehouse by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Germaine de Randamie over Hiroko Yamanaka by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Adlan Amagov over Keith Berry by TKO at 0:48 of Round 1 (this was a controversial finish as Amagov delivered an illegal kick but the fight was stopped when Berry went down and Herb Dean didn’t understand what he said to him and Berry is planning to protest)
*Miesha Tate over Julie Kedzie by armbar at 3:28 of Round 3
*Ovince St. Preux over T.J. Cook by KO at 0:20 of Round 3
*Tarec Saffiedine over Roger Bowling by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza over Derek Brnson by KO at 0:41 of Round 1
*Ronda Rousey over Sarah Kaufman by armbar at 0:53 of Round 1 to retain the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Title

**Rousey continued her stance after the fight that she wants to fight Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos but only if Santos makes 135-pounds as she feels it doesn’t make any sense to go up in weight to fight her.

**Jon Jones spoke to ESPN this week and said he doesn’t want to fight Lyoto Machida because of there being a high risk and little reward. He cited his fight with Machida at UFC 140 being the lowest drawing fight compared to Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans.

**Despite a title fight among the three fights announced for the UFC on FOX 5 event December 8th the UFC is still planning to add a fourth fight to the televised portion.

**Total idiots:

**The Strikeforce ‘Rousey Vs Kaufman’ card averaged 529,000 viewers and peaked for the Rousey Vs Kaufman fight with 676,000 viewers and were the highest numbers for any Strikeforce broadcast this year on Showtime.

**Darin Harvey, the manager of Ronda Rousey was a guest on ‘The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani’ on Monday and said that if a fight was made between Rousey and Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos that he would demand extensive drug testing leading up to the fight and go so far as to request follicle samples from Cyborg that can detest usage months ago. Harvey also stated that he would be willing to foot the bill for such extensive drug testing and was adamant that they would only take a catchweight bout if Rousey changed her mind and right now wants the fight at 135, which Cyborg is stating she cannot make and won’t do.

**Bellator has announced that Bellator 79 will take place November 2nd at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario with Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas scheduled to defend his title on that show (against the winner of Luis Nogueira Vs Marcus Galvao this Friday night) plus Paul Daley will be fighting on that card.

**Spike TV and K-1 announced a major partnership with Spike to stream four K-1 events between now and the end of the year and then begin broadcasting K-1 on the network in 2013. Spike will be streaming the September 8th U.S. Grand Prix Championship in Los Angeles, the October 14th World Grand Prix Final from Tokyo, the December 8th K-1 Max final from Athens Greence and World Grand Prix Final on December 26th in New York. Spike is not able to broadcast the events on their network until the UFC deal expires on December 31st.

**Vladimir Matyushenko will take the spot of an injured Roger Hollett on the UFC 152 main card September 22nd in Toronto and fight the returning Matt Hamill.

**Josh Thomson will fight Caros Fodor in a lightweight bout at the September 29th Strikeforce event in Sacramento, California.

**A lightweight bout between Mark Bocek and Rafael Dos Anjos has been added to the UFC 154 card on November 17th in Montreal, Quebec.

**Joe Lauzon will return to the cage on December 29th to fight Gray Maynard in a lightweight bout in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the same card that will be headlined by Junior Dos Santos Vs Cain Velasquez for the Heavyweight Title and feature Chael Sonnen Vs Forrest Griffin.

**UFC welterweight Georges St-Pierre has announced that he has been medically cleared to resume all training following his torn ACL he sustained last December. It is all but a lock he will now fight Carlos Condit on November 17th in Montreal, Quebec for Welterweight Championship. The two were originally to fight this past February at UFC 143 but the knee injury to St-Pierre pulled him from the card and Condit became the Interim champion taking a controversial decision over Nick Diaz.

**Bellator’s final ‘Summer Series’ event for 2012 this past Friday averaged 167,000 viewers on MTV2 featuring the finals of the Light Heavyweight and Bantamweight tournaments.

**The UFC has added a number of fights to the UFC on FOX 5 event set for December 8th in Seattle with the announcement of a welterweight bout between Mike Swick and Matt Brown. Swick returned to action earlier this month defeating DaMarques Johnson at the UFC on FOX 4 card in Los Angeles after a 33-month layoff and was a great story with the comeback win and makes a lot of sense to put him back on FOX. The UFC has also added a heavyweight bout between Brendan Schaub and Lavar Johnson as well as more UFC 151 fighters looking for new homes with the addition of Daron Cruickshank Vs Henry Martinez and Abel Trujillo Vs Tim Means. It is unknown at this time whether the Swick Vs Brown or Schaub Vs Johnson fight will be part of the main card on FOX or not.

**Bellator 78 has been announced for October 28th in Dayton, Ohio at the Nutter Center featuring the semi-finals of the Season 7 welterweight tournament (the quarter-finals take place on September 28th) along with the return of 115-pound women’s champion Zoila Gurgel, who has not fought since March of 2011.

**With all of the shuffling of fights due to the cancellation of UFC 151 it has left Alan Belcher without an opponent for the UFC 153 card in Rio de Janiero, Brazil this October. The announcement that his opponent Vitor Belfort would be moved to the September 22nd card to fight Jon Jones was a blessing for Belcher, who revealed after the announcement that he had a spinal fracture and would be fighting October 13th as originally expected. Belcher has stated he will be ready to fight before the end of the year and would like to fight Chris Weidman.

**The UFC has moved the light heavyweight rematch between Phil Davis and Wagner Prado to the October 13th card in Rio de Janiero to fill the void of Belfort Vs Belcher.

**Sad news out of Brazil as it was reported that Holando Pinheiro sa Silva, the father of UFC middleweight Wanderlei Silva, died tragically on Sunday night in a car accident.

**Bellator Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas fought outside of the organization this past weekend for Shooto Brazil and was knocked out at the 1:40 mark of Round 1 by Tyson Nam. Dantas was given the go ahead by Bellator to take the fight to avoid being on the sidelines for too long a period of time. Dantas, who trains with Nova Uniao, last fought in April where he won the Bantamweight title defeating Zach Makovsky and is next scheduled to fight November 2nd in Rama, Ontario against Season 6 tournament winner Marcos Galvao.

**Invicta FC has announced a bout between Sarah Kaufman Vs Kaitlin Young for their October 6th event in Kansas City, Missouri.

**UFC Featherweight Chad Mendes has been charged with battery stemming from an incident at a bar in Hanford, California last month. Those at the bar state that Mendes sucker punched a patron inside of the bar and then fled the scene while Mendes and his representatives are denying the incident. Mendes will appear in court on September 19th and faces a possible fine of $2,000 and up to six-months in jail.

**Bellator has announced that their Season 7 lightweight tournament will kick off October 19th in Reading, Pennsylvania with the following quarter-final fights set for that night at Bellator 77:
*Rich Clementi Vs Tiger Sarnavskiy
*Ricardo Tirloni Vs Rene Nazare
*Murad Machaev Vs Marcin Held
*Dave Jansen Vs Magomed Saadulaev

**Mac Danzig has tweeted that he is scheduled to fight Takanori Gomi on November 10th in Macau, China at the UFC on FUEL 6 event. The UFC has also moved the Takeya Mizugaki Vs Jeff Hougland bantamweight bout and the John Lineker Vs Yasuhiro Urushitani flyweight bout to the Macau card as both of those fights were originally scheduled for this Saturday at the UFC 151 event.

**Erik Koch has suffered an undisclosed injury in training (believed to be an knee injury) and is off of the UFC 153 card on October 13th in Rio de Janiero, Brazil where he was to challenge Jose Aldo for the Featherweight Title. The UFC has inserted Frankie Edgar into the challenger spot and he will make his featherweight debut challenging for the title on that date. Edgar is coming off two razor thin decision losses to Benson Henderson at UFC 144 and 150 this year.

**One FC presented their fifth card on friday from Manila in the Philippines (where there was an earthquake in the city during the event but didn’t affect the building at all). The undercard aired free on their website with the main card available for $9.95 on their site. Here are the results from the show:
*Honorio Banario over Andrew Benibe by TKO at 3:47 of Round 3
*Shannon Wiratchai over Mitch Chilson by TKO at 2:03 of Round 2
*Phil Baroni over Rodrigo Ribeiro by TKO at 1:00 of Round 1
*Gregor Gracie over Nicholas Mann by armbar at 3:28 of Round 1
*Soo Chul Kim over Kevin Belingon by unanimous decision
*Jung Hwan Cha over Igor Gracie by TKO at 1:03 of Round 3
*Rolles Gracie over Tony Bonello by rear-naked choke at 1:33 of Round 3
*Eric Kelly over Jens Pulver by TKO at 1:46 of Round 2
*Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia fought to a no contest
*Eduard Folayang over Felipe Enomoto by unanimous decision
*Bibiano Fernandes over Gustavo Falciroli by unanimous decision

**Arlovski and Sylvia fought to a draw after Arlovski dropped Sylvia with two right hands and followed up with two soccer kicks to the face while Sylvia was a down on all fours. The rules for One FC are that soccer kicks and stomps are legal but in the heat of the action the referee has to verbally inform the fighter he can proceed and rule that the downed opponent can intelligently defend themselves and in this case the official had not give the go ahead to Arlovski. Phil Baroni also utilized stomps and kicks in his win over Rodrigo Robeiro though the officially cleared stated he could do so.

**During the card they announced Eric Kelly and Honorio Banario will fight at their next card on October 6th ‘Rise of the Kings’ to crown the One FC featherweight champion. They also announced Eduard Folayang will fight to crown the first Lightweight Champion.

**The UFC and FX have sent out information on the next season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, which debuts Friday September 14th at 9pm EST with a two-hour season premiere featuring 32 welterweights fighting to for 16 spots in the house with coaches Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin. Among the 32-fighters vying for a spot in the house include Bristol Marunde (who just competed for Strikeforce earlier this year against Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza), Montreal based fighter Mike Ricci and former Bellator fighter Sam Alvey. The TUF 16 Finale will take place December 15th in Las Vegas featuring Nelson Vs Carwin and the finals of the show for the UFC contract.

**Jorge Gurgel will meet Mizuto Hirota on the undercard of the Strikeforce card on September 29th in Sacramento, California headlined by Gilbert Melendez Vs Pat Healy for the Lightweight Title.

**Patrick Cote Vs Alessio Sakara has been added to the UFC 154 card on November 17th in Montreal, Quebec.

**Rob Broughton has pulled out of his fight with Matt Mitrione for the UFC on FX 5 event on October 5th and Mitrione will now fight Philip De Fries on December 29th at UFC 155 in Las Vegas.

**A featherweight bout between Dennis Siver and Eddie Yagin, which was originally scheduled for UFC 151 has been moved to the UFC on FOX card on December 8th along with a lightweight bout between Michael Chiesa and Rafaello Oliveira. They have also announced a bantamweight bout for that card between Scott Jorgensen and John Albert.

**Bellator 81 will take place on November 16th in Rhode Island.

**December 8th is shaping up to be a war between MMA and Boxing with the UFC presenting their UFC on FOX 5 card with Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions planning to run big cards the same night. Top Rank is finalizing Manny Pacquiao’s next fight for December 8th and Golden Boy has reserved the MGM Grand Garden Arena for that night for a potential pay-per-view.

**Perhaps the best show on television right now if you’re a combat sports fan is the new ‘Fight Factory’ show on Nuvo TV in the U.S. The show chronicles the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) out of San Jose, California including trainers Javier Mendez, Bob Cook and fighters Cain Velasquez, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck (now with Dethrone Basecamp in Fresno and the split is covered in detail on the series), Phil Baroni, Josh Thomson, Daniel Cormier and many other fighters associated with the gym. The show is completely different from ‘Ultimate Fighter’ with incredible access given, a candidness rarely seen on television from MMA personalities. The show only airs in the U.S. right now but the first three episodes are up on the Nuvo TV website.

**Josh Koscheck tweeted over the weekend that his rehab is going great (he was scheduled to fight Jake Ellenberger this weekend at UFC 151 but pulled out and was replaced by Jay Hieron) and will be able to fight by the end of the year on the December 29th card. There are a ton of fighters trying to get on that year-end card headlined by Junior Dos Santos Vs Cain Velasquez and is the reciprocal effect of all the injuries these past couple of months with so many big names ready to fight all at the same time.

**UFC featherweight Ricardo Lamas did an interview this week stating that the UFC contacted him to replace Erik Koch at UFC 153 and agreed right away but then the company contacted him later in the day and alerted him that they were going with Frankie Edgar instead.

**UFC heavyweight Christian Morecraft was arrested this past weekend for suspicion of operation a vehicle while under the influence, speeding and not producing a driver’s license. Morecraft was arrested after he refused a breathalyser test and was brought in to the Barnstable Police Department in Massachusetts.

**Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller was officially charged with a misdemeanour count of vandalism after he broke into a church last month and was found naked and had trashed the church and used a fire extinguisher. He appears in court on November 21st and faces up to a year in prison and / or probation. The damage was listed at $400 that he caused.

**The UFC has announced that tryouts for Season 17 of the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ will take place September 17th in Las Vegas at the Palace Station Hotel and will be open to light heavyweights and middleweights.

**The K-1 Rising U.S. Grand Prix Championship takes place this Saturday night at 8pm EST from Los Angeles and streaming on Spike.com and will feature fifteen bouts.

**Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will be featured in the September issue of Rolling Stone Magazine.

**Tito Ortiz is working alongside long time promoter Roy Engelbrect, who will be promoting amateur bouts in California beginning October 6th with a show titled ‘Fight Club MMA – Rising Stars’. Ortiz is not the official promoter for the show but will be working with the fighters and assisting them with the marketing side of the business and properly conducting interviews (something sorely needed at this level).

**Jon Jones speaks to The Toronto Sun in-depth and criticizes Dan Henderson for talking trash about him.

**Such a great story with Renzo Gracie taking care of two idiots, who tried to mug him and live tweeting the entire fiasco. Gracie choked one out and whispered to him ‘that’s what death feels like’.

**The weigh-ins for the UFC 152 will take place on Friday September 21st at the Air Canada Centre at 4pm EST.

**Tito Ortiz is now managing Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos and tells MMAWeekly that the fight with Ronda Rousey will happen but not at 135-pounds.
