predictions for conference winners, bcs teams, sleepers, disappointments, best/worst conferences?

I'm holding off on big predictions but...

I think Notre Dame is way overrated again.

I fear that Miami and Michigan will have big rebound years.

I think the pre-season top 25 will look a lot different than the post-season top 25.

Maimi and Michigan? Based on what. Maimi is so thin at WR this year that they are using their punter to run routes. The saftey position is a huge strength as is the TE but the team as a whole has zero depth especially at CB, WR, DL, and LB.

I agree with the Notre Dame statement. They still lack speed and/or talent on D.

Hopefully a little team from Austin, Texas can make something happen this year, as well as mein Trojans.

haha i knew i wouldn't take long for someone to start pumping the horns. i gotta love the 'sips, or hate 'em, as in my case. it comes with the territory of being an aggie fan. 6 years in a row just eats at me every day. i still don't get why blow-u is getting all the hype. yes bomar's older, peterson healthy, but it doesn't matter if the o-line is shit. stout defense tho, and you cannot replace that with any offense. near losses at home to baylor and a&m seem to be forgotten by some of these rag-writers. the big 12 definitely needs a little shakeup this year, but sadly will probably field no more than 3-4 top 25 teams at once all year. iowa state anyone?

notre dame will be very good. good enough on offense to make up for lack of speed on defense. but their schedule will be their demise. after watching ohio state thump them in the fiesta, i'm pretty convinced the buckeyes will be on a mission like the 02 team. their game in austin will be HUGE for both teams, obviously, as well as the rest of the rankings. as big as the horns win in columbus last year was, it will be even bigger if they pull it out in austin. i still predict double-digit victory for the buckeyes. all depends on that little qb and if he keeps his head straight.

I personally cannot wait. I'm interested to see how Nebraska and Okalahoma do in the Big 12. Also, how much Notre Dame is overrated.

i'd be very surprised if the buckeyes beat texas by double digits in Austin. McCoy and/or Snead aren't going to have to do much - just manage the game and avoid mistakes. Texas ought to be able to run right at tOSU in that game, and the Horns defense should be able to contain Smith and Ginn - the freshman RB they have will be a wildcard.

i also don't understand all the jocking of OU in the preseason. but then again the media is in love with Stoops. i think Bomar will have difficulty getting time to throw this year and Peterson may well get bit by the injury bug again if he can't find room to run.

i also expect Franocchio to be gone following this season - the ags are going to have a tough go of it again.

Yeah, and that to me is pretty significant, and it's not like they sub a lot on D either. AJ and Carpenter played the whole game, but they have one good WR and a fast QB...

yeah if the horns play a flawless game on offense (ball/clock-control offense with that o-line and charles and young, no turnovers), i think they can win. tho they did win the mnc in great fashion last year, i have not forgotten the horns past history with early season flops (nc state, arkansas?). not that a loss at home to the #1 ranked team should really considered a flop. as long as it's close and texas made another undefeated run through conference, along with certain other teams losing, they could be right in the thick of it come bcs time.

as for fran and the ags, yeah we will have a tough go, but not like last year. the team you saw against tu last year was a sign of things to come, trust me. their schedule is the best in years (ou, tech, nebraska all at home). their defense can only get better (not saying alot i know). and you should go ahead and make stephen mcgee enemy of the tu state #1. mark it down. if they win atleast 8 or 7, with some wins over tech or nebraska (don't be surprised if the ou game is another epic), fran WILL stay. it will cost them too much money to buy out his contract (goes thru like 2010). however, if fran did leave, it would be interesting. tuberville from auburn returning to aggieland would be awesome. don't know maybe they should stay away from alabama completely. i'm predicting...holiday bowl against the sundevils. or alamo bowl against the spartans.

very good point and yes i realize this. that conference schedule will catch up with them sooner than later. however about replacing the 9 players, i think they'll be alright. come on, that place is a factory for defensive/nfl talent. that nite in austin a few months from now will tell all what they've made of.

one question... is ramonce taylor gonna get allowed to come back? it's pretty sickening if so, i dont care what you say. but i guess i wouldnt be that surprised. that would be a HUGE plus for the horns.

but - i think as a program UT has turned the corner. it will be interesting to see if the confidence VY instilled in everyone from MB on down will carry over.

and i don't think they necessarily need a flawless game on offense to beat tOSU. i think we'll be able to move the ball on them pretty effectively, and i don't think Smith/Ginn/Wells(?) will be enough for them to overcome what should be another dominant defense for Texas this year.

23-10 Texas is my call for that game.

i'm not sure what exactly you mean by 'sickening', but it doesn't appear at this point that he will be allowed back. even if MB were to grant him permission to rejoin the team the word is that his grades are so bad he wouldn't be eligible.

The last recruiting class for Ohio State was almost all defense and pretty damn good as well in terms of the talent in the DE, CB, and LB positions, but to expect players with little or no game experience to play well is asking far too much. Next year, the D, I think will start looking pretty damn nice, but by then the offense will have lost it's punch as Ginn and Troy Smith will have left.

'your flop games'? don't be made cause a&m could actdually BEAT ou. come on no one's debating a&m's recent eyesores of football games. if you guys would have beat the 'backs and the wolfpack those years, who knows what could have happened!? simms should've never started a game in '99. i didn't even mention colorado in '01.should've been ALL APPLEWHITE. that was a disgrace to college football if i've ever seen one... making one of the best leaders in recent memory of college football sit his senior year. might have been a horn dynasty before the trojans. you hit the nail on the head with the confidence part, tho. simms didn't have it. he and mack didn't direct those teams to have the swagger (i hate that word btw) i see now.
