ESPN has gone there, so why cant we?... i know how much everyone loves espn around here and all (tongue meet cheek)
We can leave this wide open... talk about whatever (your high school, ex-greats from your area, kids youre watching now, kids who are ready for the nba, kids going to your favorite college, kids who not many people know about yet, etc. etc.)
last night's game was pretty entertaining (for those of us who flipped between it and ncsu/dookies)... Ellington was pressing way, way too much, but he hit the winner and as a Heel fan im looking forward to his presence... i just keep wondering whose job he is going to take next year... Duke's Gerald Henderson looks a bit underrated in my estimation... he was a ton last night, and he's really not in anyone's top 20, whereas Ellington is in most everyone's top 5... makes me wonder a bit if we got the best Churchman... Henderson will flourish under K, as will Ellington under Roy
tonight's game should be equally exciting... Greg Oden is going to rock the world of college basketball next year, and tonight you can see why... Hansbrough definitely held his own against Oden last year (another ESPN televised h.s. game) and that's when i got so excited about Tyler heading to Carolina... Conley is following Oden to Ohio State (and their recruiting class for the next two years is just disgusting... they should be owning the bigten in the very near future)... on the other side of the ball you have Illinois' (boooo!) biggest recruit since the flying illini came to town in Eric Gordon... he's only a junior, but rated as the #1 shooting guard in the '07 class... his team (North Central, i believe) actually beat Oden and his boys last year... should be a fun one to watch, as last night's was
and below is the only guy to come out of my high school and make it to the nba... he was like the 11th, 12th man for a few years cause Coach Fitch (sp?) of the Nets seemed to like him... i couldnt even find a pic of the guy, and he starred at purdue:

Nets Sign Rookie Guard
Published: August 25, 1990
The Nets have signed a rookie free-agent guard, Doug Lee, who averaged 27 points a game at Purdue in the 1986-87 season.
Lee was selected by the Houston Rockets in 1987 as a second-round draft choice. After being waived by the team in training camp, he played with the Albany Patroons of the Continental Basketball Association. Last season, he played in France, where he averaged 33 points a game. (AP)

I think it's good that they show the big games once in a while but hopefully they don't overdo it.
As for the game last night, I am very familiar with high school hoops in this area (my wife is a head coach of a varsity high school team so I see alot of girls games as well). I have seen Episcopal on more than a few occasions and I don't know why Ellington is rated above Henderson. Henderson is a much more rounded player IMO and will be a better player at the next level (sorry pja, whatever your real name is). Great game last night.

oh... we can also argue whether or not espn should even show these games, if it's necessary
I don't care if espn shows H.S. games. Nobody has a problem with tennis matches with 15-year-olds being on TV....or olympic ice skating, gymnastics, etc....
Eventually, there will probably be a whole channel devoted to providing national coverage of H.S. football/basketball.

I think 7 of the 10 kids who started in that game last night are going D-1.

For those of you who know who Ramonce Taylor is (he's UT's KR/RB for those of you who don't), he played for the rival of my highschool and absolutely destroyed us in a late season match. I think he had at least three pulverizing dunks and a bunch of other crazy plays. Guy was pretty much a beast on the court.

I thought you were from Austin
Lived there most of my life and I have lots of family there, so I consider it semi-hometown still.

high school basketball is what boys play during men's wrestling season.
the truth hurts
right, why don't they ever show high school, or even college wrestling on tv? is it because it's boring?
the same reason they dont show rocket science on the learning channel, its so complex and intricate only a few people will get it. any moron can see whats goin on in a basketball game
seriously though, espn carries the ncaa div. 1 finals every year.
