i don't get how people can call these two activities "sports"

soccer- is played by a bunch of marys who half of the time are barely moving. they dive and and act like a bunch of girls. who wants to watch a "organized game of kickball" end up 1-0. this "game" is just a waste

on to nascar....

now here is a "sport" that not only wastes gasoline, but it's just a waste period. 500 laps, 500 LAPS of guys named ricky, klye, mark, and dale and ricky and kyle and yeah i think that is about it. but really besides the people below the mason dixon line, who watches this crap. and when espn gives nascar more coverage than hockey, that makes me sick. this i just can't comprehend.

if anybody can give me a logical explanation as to why these should be considered "sports" i'd like to hear it

So dictionary.com says sport is: Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

by this definition i don't see how either of these are any less of a sport than baseball or football

I had a big argument with my wife about soccer, I said it takes the least amount of skill of any sport. She tried telling me baseball (which in my opinion requires the most skill). Anyway, neither of us changed the others minds.

I can live with myself being entertained by NASCAR, I won't argue "sport" definition.
I'd rather DIE than be a Browns fan.

i would say it requires the least amount of skill during the game. you figure as a outfielder you get what, most 3 balls hit in your area? yes you need hand eye coordination, but you need that in all sports. id say bball and hockey require some of the better coordination throughout the whole game.

football and rugby and soccer definately require the most endurance

hockey is probably the most physically draining and grueling on the body throughout the game when you take into consideration the stress put on ones back

overall id rank em

1. football
2. Hockey
3. basketball
4. rugby
5. soccer
6. nascar/race car driving

its not easy but i still dont think it requires athletic abiltiy to do it..i mean..back in the day didnt everyone drive with no power anything..you get used to it

yeah cuz its hot..if i sit in a hot sauna for 4 hours tomorrow theres a chance i might lose a couple puonds

i wouldnt argue with the soccer thing..theres a lot of running and kicking and stuff involved..that is athletic skill

and if i was to rank sports id have to have boxing at #1 hardest..altho i give baseball players props for having to hit a ball while having like a fraction of a second to think about where its gonna go..football..imagine gettin heit by those guys (id say id rather drive a car without power steering than going accross the middle and meeting mr ray lewis)..hockey..shit..skating..getting hit (one winter we played on the lake every day..i got way more beat up playin hockey than any game of football i played)

soccer: "easiest sport to learn, one of the hardest to master" that's what one of my dutch coaches used to say back in the days of midwest soccer academy. soccer is definitely a sport. when a football score is 21-14, isn't it actually 3-2? i see no difference other than more points are awarded for each score. (i know, i'm not taking the extra points into account). i hate when people trash soccer as not a sport. kickball doesn't require the touch soccer does. let's see you try to "catch" a soccer ball on the fly with just your foot without it touching the ground and balancing it. then tell me it takes no skill. think you can hit an upper ninety shot over a six man wall plus get it by a guy who can use his hands to catch it? i doubt it. i can- or at least used to be able to. haven't played since college.

sport or not nascar is a competition and a very skilled one no matter how many left turn jokes are made. for anyone who has driven their car up near 100 miles per hour should remember how difficult it feels to judge things and react at such high speeds, and thats probably with no cars around, but in nascar you have up to 43 cars on the track at the same time going anywhere between 120 and 200 miles an hour and driving only inches away from each other, weaving in and out at high speeds with a small amount of wrecks compaired to the amount of laps they run in those close conditions.
and it is quite physical, these drives are in these cars where the temperatures are regularly 100 degrees plus, and the cars are nothing like our cars where you can turn corners only using one finger, if you actually watch a race and see when they show the in car cameras you see them working their asses off to get them to turn, so its kinda silly to compair it to a sunday drive in your car, but drive 10 or 12 hours in your car and tell me how you feel when you get to where you are going, because its definatly not easy.
now i cant speak for all the fans, but for me the reason i like nascar almost as much as football and better then any other sport is because unlike most sports you have the best going against each other every race instead of seeing teams play each other every once in a while like in football, baseball and basketball. and when you pick a fav driver it is different then having a fav team because it is one guy, it kinda becomes more personal, you have many players on a team but just 1 favorite driver that you get to root for every week.

now bash it all you want, its not going to change my love for it, but atleast have some knoledge before making stupid comments about somehting.

maybe theyre right and im wrong..its just that i always put together sports and athleticism and i always thought of people who played sports as athletes..

if you go by that definition you may as well include pool, darts, chess, checkers as sports because technically you use physical activity in playing them

dont get me wrong..im not saying that nascar is easy..i think those guys are very skilled at what they do..dudes are amazing at driving a car..its just that i dont consider them athletes
