Sandy is 69 today.

in my mind you were thee greatest pitcher in the games history. people will argue you had thee greatest and most dominating 5 year run in the history of sports, but it was ONLY 5 years. That magical arm of yours was beset by injury too early. but for those 5 years your oposition was in complete and utter FEAR of you, of your magical left arm.

and know I consider it an absolute honor when I discovered your birth name is the same as my own, and even after researching it for weeks, I was really pissed to find out there was no relation.. that woulda been sweet!

I only wish I could have seen you pitch myself, instead of having to watch the likes of Kaz Ishii and Jeff Weaver :(

So happy birthday Sanford Koufax.

My dad has told me stories of watching double headers while he was in college down at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. He said even from the GA seats they usually got in the outfield you could hear a tremendous pop in the catchers mit from Koufax, Koufax easily topped 100 mph on the gun, a ridiculously scary guy for 5 brilliant years.

Sick break. You've heard the expression "faking the guy out of his shoes"? That's what his curveball did.

It's absurd that anyone treats him as a lesser player because he didn't have a long career. Would they say that about Jim Brown or Barry Sanders because they quit at 30? Koufax was as good as there will ever be.

is he still alive? My father used to watch him all the time since he was a Brooklyn boy. Definitely his favorite player of all time. Tis a shame he retired so soon. I think he's comparable to Gale Sayers as far as being that good for a small amount of time.

Good comparison. Another good baseball comparable was Ralph Kiner.
