I am not sure how the lose impacted their playoffs at all. they were the #2 seed before the game and #2 after it
because in all likelyhood the Steelers will be the #1 seed now. And the pats COULD lose in pittsburgh, but there was no way the steelers would have won an AFC title game IN foxboro....

The Patsies could have won the rest of their games and if Pitt kept winning they would still be #2.
Hey we'll see you in the playoffs. Oh my bad, I forgot that the Dolphins are playing for the toilet bowl and the #3 draft pick! When the Pats win the Super Bowl this year this will all be moot!

If the Pats lose to the Jets in New York, then the Jets go on to beat St. Louis in their final game, then the Jets and Steelers get first round byes in the playoffs and the Pats will only be at home for their first round game.

Hey Theo why don't you go emulate your hero George Steinbrenner.

The only way the Jets are getting the division win is if everything you said happens AND the Pats lose to San Francisco. Anything's possible, but don't count on it.
EDIT: and even then I'm not sure who'd get it - each team would have beaten the other team once and they'd have identical divisional records.

Boy, that's some funny stuff, I think EVERY GM in the bigs would emulate Steinbrenner if given the opportunity and the checkbook.

All of you are forgetting the Colts and Chargers. The Dolphins just gave them a huge present. Whoever wins the faceoff between these two teams can tie, or extremely maybe pass the Pats for the second bye. I know the Colts would have to win out and the Pats lose out for that the happen, since the Pats beat the Colts earlier, but I don't know what the tiebreaker situation is with Pats/Chargers.

The Pats can't lose the east. They clinched it last week. However has GH indicated they could lose a first round bye.

The Pats beat both the Colts and the Chargers. The only way for either of those teams to get a higher seed than the Pats is if the Pats lose out and one of them wins out. Since the Colts and Chargers play this week the worst the Pats can do is get the 3 seed. At least I think thats right.
Edited: Nope I was wrong the Pats didn;t play the Chargers. The tie breaker between the Pats and Chargers would come down to Conference record. Right now they both have two conferecne losses. I think the Chargers need the Pats to lose this week b/c a loss to the Niners by the Pats wont help the Chargers b/c its a non-conference game,

You're at least half right, and maybe 90% right depending on the Pats/Chargers tiebreaker, which I haven't looked up yet. However, the Chargers did NOT play the Pats--the only AFC West team they faced were the Chiefs, because they both finished first last season (same reason why the Jets and Chargers faced--they were both cellar dwellers).
The only way the Pats get #4 is if they lose out, the Colts win out, the Chargers win after losing to the Colts, AND the Chargers have the tiebreaker over the Pats. All of that is VERY unlikely.

Yeah I just edited my last post. I guess for the Pats to be the fourth seed as you indicated the Pats obviously need to lose out and then the Colts have to win out and the Chargers lose then win the week after. In that case the tie breaker between the Pats and Chargers I believe would come down to strenght of schedule since they would have the same conference record.
For the Chargers to get the two they need to win out and the Pats have to lose to the Jets.
