The monkey is off his back and he did it in typical Bigg fashion last nite. Not only did his milestone hit tie the game up, but he also went 5 for 6 on the night. Maybe even more importantly, his final hit came in extra innings with 2 outs, sparking a game-winning rally by hustling out an infield single. The man is 40+ and still showing the kind of effort and passion that he had 20 years ago. He is to Houston Astro baseball what Ozzie is to St. Louis, Mike Schmidt to Philly, Cal Ripken Jr. to Baltimore, etc. A hall-of-famer in every sense of the word, and any one who questions that is just plain wrong. Can't wait to see you elected in Cooperstown, Craig. Cheers!

While Utley is a great player with a big future in front of him, he's got a few years to go to be mentioned with the likes of those names. I see the comparision though certainly and he will be there if he continues the path he is on.

A few years? More like 15.

Not even in the same breath as Biggio.

Hyperbo-what?! Why you gotta come in here and throw French at us? :)

Yeah, I'm familiar with it. That's why I said that Utley 'has a few years to go'. Perhaps that's a misuse of the literary term, I don't know. Was the main reason that you made the comparison between the two because they're both second basemen? Most people forget, or never knew, that Biggio played catcher and centerfielder for a looong time before he moved to infield. Correct me if I'm wrong, Costner.

yeah i knew biggio played catcher. but i wasnt comparing biggio to utley, i was comparing utley to schmidt being the best baseball player to ever play in philly. thats obviously an overstatment, but if utley continues to plays to his full potential he'll be in the same breath as players like biggio and schmidt

not bad for a converted catcher. I'm glad they made that move.

did i hear the announcer say, even though he was tagged out stretching the single to a double, that it was still his 3000th?

It's still a hit if you get thrown out trying to stretch it into something more. It kind of sucks his 3,000th hit ended up an out, but oh well. I've got mad respect for Biggio, one of my favorite players of all time.

thats not a hit, no wonder baseball sucks so much. why dont they include flyouts to outfield and or infield now, make the 17000 club that much easier to get into

How is it not a hit? He he the ball and got to first base safely... that's how you get a hit. Getting out heading to second doesn't affect that, it's just a baserunning mistake.

so if a guy rounds first and gets caught trying to get to second, it still counts as a hit cause he made it to first? thats fucking insane

why is it the worst? you hit a high pop up, you reach first and round second, but the player catches it. you made it safely to first, you just got out afterwards, same horse shit as calling a stretched single into a double and getting out trying to make it a double a hit

wrong. a pop up is never a single in the first place.

You never made it safely to first because the ball never hit the ground.
