This post made me think about that home run Joe Carter hit. I forgot it was Mitch Williams that threw that pitch.
So naturally I had to go back and look up the 1991 and 1992 WS.

I'm still waiting for all of those Philly fans that jumped on the St. Joe's bandwagon so quickly a couple of years ago to return. But I guess they've been preoccupied with their Phillies since then. Oh . . . wait . . .

It was more than that. These "fans" were self-proclaimed St. Joes fanatics. I even recall making a post about how all of the random "fans" would simply crawl back into the woodwork by the next season. And sure enough, they did. I haven't heard a peep from "fans" about St. Joes since their random season a couple of years ago.

yeah i hear ya. those "fans" were drexel and villinova fanatics last year
and really, its not just the 10,000 losses that sucks. its the fact that none of the other teams in the city can win a fucking championship. 10,000 loses wouldnt hurt as bad when you know you have another team to fall back on. but no, the sixers blow, the flyers were embarrassing, and the eagles will continue to lose in the playoffs. fuck.

As a fan, what's worse? A team like the Florida Marlins who have won 2 world series since 1997, or a team like the White Sox or Red Sox who finally won it for the first time in 80+ years?
With the former, it hurts because a team comes out of nowhere that didn't even exist 20 years ago and wins not once, but twice. With the latter, you no longer have the "misery-loves-company" fallback -- there's no way you can prevent feeling jealous. And the obnoxious fans of those teams that all of a sudden act like they've dominated the game for the past century and forget what it's like to be on the devastating losses side of the equation seem to make it worse.

the marlins really really piss me off. i guess its b/c they own the phillies and have won the world series twice. boston and chicago dont bother me as much b/c while their fans forget that they have sucked for years, i still remember it.

I root for all of the 6 Philly college hoops teams, Temple will always be my favorite. I always hated St Joes but my wife went there, played hoops there, coached hoops there. I worked their basketball camp one year, spent alot of time there visiting her and my best friend also went there. It was hard to not root for them after spending so much time on campus and in the Fieldhouse watching games. The reason you don't really hear from St Joes fans is because what is there to talk about? There aren't very good anymore plus who on these boards is there to even have a conversation with about them? If I want to talk about their team I'll talk to someone who cares.
As for the Phillies, of course they are gonna get to 10,000. They have been around for what, 127 seasons? Stunk pretty much the entire time. They are definitely the most frustrating team to be a fan of. Worst ownership and management history ever.

Leibrandt gave up the game winner in 92 to Dave Winfield, and that horrid HR in game 6 of 91 to Kirby Puckett.... then there was Wholers in 96 (LEYRITZ!!!)

the marlins absolutely dominated the phils coming down the stretch in '03. it was a beautiful thing.
being a marlins fan has been quite the experience. first of all, every 6 years, all of a sudden 100,000 "fans" come out of the woodwork and act like theyve been there all along. '97 we win the series. '98 we lose like 108 games. (yes, i still went to at least 7-8 games a year from 98-01 til we started getting better). the '03 season was just amazing.
the biggest problem with the marlins hasn't been the team, but the fans and ownership has sucked.

what a silly, meaningless news article. The Cubs will, most likely, become the second team to win 10,000 games next year, followed by the Dodgers the following year, and the Cardinals the year after that.
Though I will admit, a winning pct of .468 over 125 years is pretty crummy.
