is anyone here a coach of any sport or have been before?
my older brother is a head coach of a high school football team, but has recently decided to change schools. he's planning on coaching again and asked me if id be interested. footballs probly my favorite sport so im really looking forward to the opportunity, but ive never really been a coach before. i mean in high school ive coached kids on the midget wrestling team at tourneys and stuff b/c their werent enough coaches, but ive always been the player not the coach. i think it would be alot of fun to do, has anyone else coached anyone at any age before?

Nothing major but Summer basketball camps, but I'm a personal trainer so that is a form of coaching. If my time allowed me I would love to coach basketball.

I've coached little league baseball( a total blast), hoops at camps and tennis(private lessons). I would love to coach football but i don't see ever getting the opportunity for it. That would be so awesome. I guess i'll have to take my frustrations out on the flag football field.

I don't hink I could coach at the middle school level you're right that would take too much paitence.

I coached 1rst and 2nd graders in basketball in a Y league. I am the most patient person in the universe.
One day I will coach baseball on some level. I throw BP and instruct a little bit to my buddies son's team.. Its tough in Florida cause the competition is so great and kids are always going to camps and playing on so many different teams at once.

And it finally comes out . . . despite all the bitching you actually enjoy baseball. Good for you.

My major was going to be Exercise Physiology. I always wanted and still would love to be a Stength & Conditioning Coach for a professional sports team.

haha! I like baseball a lot. And coaching little kids is great fun, especially during the games. I'd probably rather go watch a baseball game then any other sport. On Tv is another story, and MLB is another story. Don't make me go off! back to the coaching

when i got my first teaching job (high school) i knew i wanted to coach... and it ended up they actually had a basketball position open at the school that hired me... i was only excited for about three seconds, cause after they said they had a bball opening, they told me it was for girls... about one practice in and i loved it... i could never stand girls' bball or any sport for that matter, but once i started coaching them it was a blast... and i was amazed at how passionate i was about it... coached soph's for three years and then coached varsity for a year, but i got a better job far away, so that was that... i did coach 7th/8th football this year, and it was pretty cool... i think youll really like it, especially if you love the game... best of luck

I have never coached only because I don't get home until after 7 most of the time. I'd love to coach any of the big 3 sports.
My girlfriend has been the head coach of a varsity high school girls basketball team. The only complaints she has, and I hear it all, is that it takes up so much of her free time, some of the players are a pain in the ass and when they "don't get it" (sounds like when she's talking about me). She could coach a college team if she wanted, was an assistant at St. Joes for a year. She got an offer from northwestern but didn't want to move. It's funny because she has been coaching for 5 years now and every season she says its her last. I'd like her to stick with it, keeps her off my ass.

That is sort of my goal but more with the individual not so much the team, but that wouldn't be all that bad either.

I was given the opportunity to assistant coach, not football, but cross-country. I found that the male coaches seemed to give attention to only the "stars" and sort of leave everyone else out to fend for themselves. Whatever you do, be sure to recognize that, even if the kids you are coaching aren't going to be the greatest, they still deserve attention and encouragement; you never know when you might tap into the "potential" within a child. Its an incredible thing, but just a little bit of encouragement and a pat on the back with a "good effort" or "good job" can go a long way in the esteem and confidence of a kid; sports are 95% "mental", you have to believe in yourself and believe you can do well if you are ever going to do so. Each kid deserves that from any and all coaches.
Cross Training is especially important. Its one thing to run through the plays, the game plan, etc., but its also important to keep them from "glazing over like a deer in the headlights" by breaking up the training monotany with some swimming, running, getting in a van and going to a different field for an afternoon if possible,..... something to inject some fresh air and energy into them.
