Wouldn't taking Durant shelve Aldridge? You can't have to 6'10ish wafers out there taking up your 4 and 5 slots, can you?
Look at the last nine NBA championships. A big man (Duncan and Shaq) has been intricately involved in the team that won eight of them. Take Oden.
you watch sportscenter too huh
i just think portland is screwed. id say definately take the big man myself, but im scared of just how dominant durant can possibly be
A rep from Portland today actually said "Durant looks like the most dominant offensive presence I've ever seen," or something like that.
If you're Portland, you've got to stop worrying about all these external influences and these idiots screaming Sam Bowie's name at every corner. There aren't surefire centers like Oden but once every 10-15 years, give or take. He's also one of the most personable players to come out of college in a long time. He's got the "Shaq factor" in almost every facet of the game. There's almost no way to lose in this scenario for either team.

I think that when attempting to determine your best move, it's more important to consider what is before what might be. Or, put another way, don't concentrate on who has the greater strength, but who has the greater weakness. From NBADraft.net:
Quote:
Weaknesses: Offensively Oden isn’t very polished with his back to the basket … Nor does he possess a big assortment of moves … Needs to expand his shooting range, as of right now Oden is very uncomfortable facing the basket … Has struggled when playing against strong aggressive players … Although this is to be expected when you consider his age … Still learning what he's capable of, especially against big and strong opponents, he can go through periods when he doesn’t dominate and often he will defer to his teammates … Post footwork could stand to refinement … From a fundamental stand point, he is still behind in development. As of right now he is often relying on pure athleticism and size … Doesn’t always finish after contact … Can get into foul trouble when faced with physically aggressive players …
One thing sticks out in a very big way there. There's a claim that Oden isn't very polished with his back to the basket followed by a claim that he is very uncomfortable facing the basket. I guess he likes to stand sideways to the basket? There's also a warning of his timidity.
Quote:
Weaknesses: Double teams have proven to trouble him as he doesn’t always read them quickly enough … While he is unselfish, he lacks the passing ability to create for his teammates … To his credit his isn’t a terribly poor passer but certainly doesn’t stand out at this point in his career … Defensively he is improving and showing a willingness to improve, but still needs to work on his perimeter defense in terms of his anticipation skills and footwork … Has a tendency of bite on fakes when going for the block, so improvement on his timing and patience will eliminate this … Like most freshmen in college Durant will need to add more weight and body strength. He probably will always be on the slim side due to his narrow chest, but it shouldn't hinder him much except finishing inside … Doesn’t always take full advantage of mismatches, often Durant will settle for the outside jumper, granted it's not a horrible alternative … Body strength doesn’t allow him to finish after contact … Despite being such a dominate offensive force, Durant can go through stretches of games where he appears fatigued and won’t demand the ball … Gets pushed out rather easily on rebounds due to his body strength … Although not a major flaw, it should be noted that Durant operate primarily on the right side of the floor … Ball protection will need to be worked on as he can get careless with the ball
That souhds like a bunch of stuff that almost all young guys have problems with, and things that will inevitably improve.
Greg Oden is not Shaq and will never be Shaq...you won't be seeing the next Shaq until the next step in human evolution. No one should ever listen to Jay Mariotti. I think this is a "can't go wrong" situation. This draft is beginning to remind me of the '92 draft...a little overstated, but still quite good.

Portland has told Oden that they're picking him.
I look forward to the Celtics doing the only thing that they do well (besides getting worse every year) tomorrow. Now watch them trade the pick.

i agree the Blazers should probably take Oden but Aldridge isn't a very good reason to pass on Durant. they're two very different players, despite his relatively thin frame Aldridge is much more of an interior player than Durant. Durant will play the 3.

I got a feelin that Portland is going to surprise everyone and pick KD.
They're just trying to throw off Seattle, hoping they get confused and accidentally take McRoberts.
Everyone keeps saying the sixers are going to take McRoberts. That dude is a flat out pussy and a bum. oh, and he stinks too. I will be sick if they take him.

trades like this tell you all you need to know about how fucked up the NBA's roster/salary requirements are.
