Well, the Ducks have the Cup and now every team in the league has to start looking towards next year. What does your team need? Free-agents, trades, draft... let's go...

Well for one thing locking Giggy up for the long term would be good. I like Ilya, but JS is just money come playoff time.

If they decide to sign Giggy to a long term deal, do you think they'll try to trade Bryzgalov, or will they stick with the 2-goalie system? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to keep both of them, though it did come in handy when Giggy was hurt/had personal issues.

they might dangle him for sure. He's definetly a solid goalie w/ #1 type potential. Plus I also have to wonder about Giguere's offers elsewhere. Rumor is the Kings are going to throw the franchise at him to lure him away.

Also the Ducks will likely say :peace: to Selanne. As much as I'd love him back, there's no better way I'd rather see one of my all-time favorite Ducks go than this.

Is he really planning on retiring? I can't remember where I heard that, but it would be a pretty legendary way to go out.

He's unsure yet. But he did mention he would like to go out a champion. So unless he feels Anaheim has a strong chance to repeat, he'll likely retire here. If he does I'll thank him for the memories, including watching and meeting him.

Possibly a goalie. I love Osgood, but he's past his prime and best serving the back-up role. Depends what Dom decides. I'd say defense if the youngins can't get healthy.

Most important, repeated practices emphasizing not to attempt to clear the puck in front of your own net during OT.

Things the Islanders need to do:

Resign Ryan Smyth
Sign Sean Bergenheim
Find somebody to replace Blake's scoring
Sign another Witt-like defenseman

is 1.5 mill a year for a 23 goal man (playing with the Sedins, no less), worth it? I've always felt that he could do so much more. I hope to see him do just that, in fact.

As much as I'd like the Sens to move Redden and his rediculous contract, I can't see it happening. Hopefully they can find a suitor for Gerber (Florida or Phoenix seem plausible).

I think they'll let Comrie walk, and unless Redden gets traded, Preissing too. Re-sign McAmmond.

The one addition I would love to make to this team is Scott Hartnell. He'll probably be one of the more sought after UFA's because of his age. He'd be the perfect fit on a line with Spezza and Heatley and move Alfredsson to the 2nd line with Fisher and preferably Vermette.

colorado needs to buy out theodores contract and try to go after a solid goalie (Giguere could really take them far) and they need to solidify their defense... they have too many offensive type defencemen so they need to get more 'shut-down' defenders..
their offense looks great with the young guys really playing well and sakic seems like he can continue to play at a high level for a few more years

bruins:

i hope they bring up tuuka rask (he just signed a new deal) to be the #1, he's still too young i'm sure, but i hate thomas's inconsistency.

if they can move murray, they'll have a lot of money to spend b/c zhamnov is off the books this season (i think/hope). so maybe they'll be in the running for the highest priced scorers. without moving murray i think they could try to add an older guy like guerin, forsberg, shanahan or tkachuk if they don't re-sign where they are.

another strong defender could go a long way to help this team, but seeing as they were so young last season, keeping most of the pairings together wouldn't be a awful idea.

My Leafs' writeup might take a while.

I"m pretty sure Zhamnov was off the books last year. And I don't think Rask is ready to be a #1 goalie in the NHL. The Bruins need to shore up their defense.

i know for a fact that zhamnov was on the roster last year, getting paid, but i don't know when his deal ends.

New York Rangers:

#1: Resign Michael Nylander
#2: Sign Chris Drury or Scott Gomez to be the #2 Center
#3: Resign Brendan Shanahan
#4: Get rid of Marek Malik and Karel Rachunek
#5: Find a competent backup goalie.

my shortlist:

1. Move either Kubina or McCabe. Neither of these are so much performance related as they are money related. And with 8 d-men signed for next year you would have to think that was in the future.
2. Get a decent backup. Maybe Mika Noronen would be a good fit. Though Maurice seems to want to play Raycroft another 70 game season.
3. Free Agents. Someone with some flash.
