How is this thread not started? :haha:

Quote:
Patriots Sign Ex-49ers LB T.J. Slaughter

Patriots signed LB T.J. Slaughter, formerly of the 49ers. Slaughter, 30, was out of football last year. He has experience at inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, but will be lucky to last through the summer.

So this is similiar to the Steelers signing Zabransky?

Grimace and Ozzy still need to face the music...they dished out a lot. There are a lot of posters on this board waiting for those two. Anyway, I've given my weeks worth of harrasment...

i would just accept the fact that none of them will ever know whats it like to have an undefeated team playing in the playoffs. i give everybody in boston/new england a free pass for any foolishness this season, its a once and a lifetime thing and was enjoyed by all. if they had won and we didn't act the way we did we'd regret it 10 years from now when our team is that season's miami dolphins.

I'd rather put just put Bob and Jonathan Kraft at Tackle and save the money they'd otherwise waste on Light and Kaczur. Do the coordinators' salaries count towards the cap? If so, we could save some dough by replacing McDaniels with a coat rack.

Why no, I'm not bitter. Why do you ask?

cutting these guys would save the pats $31,114,480 against the '08 cap ($76,514,258 total for 33 players). but the guys i've highlighted would already count for $9,596,668 against next year's cap; not the mention the other guys listed would bring the '09 cap "penalties" to $12,145,835.

as I understand it, if guys like stallworth, morris, washington, light, colvin, faulk and/or harrison restructure their deals, then the cap figures above are meaningless and the pats can save money and the players could be guaranteed more money in future seasons. if they're cut outright and then signed to new deals, the above numbers are still in play (paid to each player).

this should all be obvious stuff to most of us, but i'm curious to see how much of a benefit it would be to cut some of these players. obviously, guys like stallworth, washington and morris aren't worth the '09 cap hits. and guys like faulk, light, harrison and colvin aren't worth losing to another team. so it looks like the pats have a lot of guys (starting with brady) to renegotiate with to try and make more "space" to retain guys like moss, gaffney, samuel, gay and wilson (and/or players from outside the organization).

Seems like you gotta cut Stallworth and try to re-sign him to a deal more accurate of his talent.

looking at his deal, i don't know where to begin. the pats have until Feb. 25 to decide if they want to give him the $6 M roster bonus that would basically keep his deal as follows:

i'm thinking they cut him and take the hit next year. :|

The Patriots have informed WR Kelley Washington that they don't plan to pick up his $4 million option bonus but are interested in him returning with a reworked deal, an NFL source told the Boston Globe's Christopher L. Gasper.

If the sides don't reach a reworked deal, Washington, a top special teams performer, will become an unrestricted free agent Feb. 29.

I agree. He was great after the catch but I'd prefer they spend the $ on Gaffney.

maybe they could cut him and just re-work a deal like GH pondered earlier.

They could, but we all know who his agent is, and unless he really, really wants to stay I see him leaving.

He's gone. Let the Chad Jackson era begin, I think he will have a good year next year. According to the Globe Moss took him under his wing and has been getting on his ass about studying the playbook and route running.

I have high hopes for Jackson, given his size and speed. I still remeber his first catch two years ago, which was sweet, but the fucker better be ready. He's got alot to prove with that injured knee.
I guess they say it takes almost two years to fully recover from ACLs.

i didn't realize Faulk had such a big role last season. i think its safe to say he's not slowing down.

boston.com wrote:
Faulk, [whom] most would call a third-down back. Yet [he] played more snaps than any other running back on the roster (44 percent) and suited up for every game of the season (only the second time in his nine years that has happened). He had 63 carries for a 4.3 avg. and caught 47 passes for 383 yards (8.1 avg.).
