Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Patriots are showing an interest in former Redskin LaRon Landry [imghttp://thebiglead.fantasysportsven.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/laron-landry.jpg[/img].

Never let it be said the Patriots aren’t active at the start of free agency. ESPN are reporting that New England are finalizing a deal to re-sign WR/ST Matthew Slater. The question is who are they going to sign to give extra depth at defensive back to ensure that Slater doesn’t have to play defensive snaps again this season?
Per Aaron Wilson the New England Patriots have signed former Bengal defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene. Fanene fits the Patriots mould of being a solid all round player, bringing good ability in run defense whilst providing at least some pass rush from a variety of positions. He’s not an all star but having played 292 of his 486 snaps at defensive tackle he brings the versatility that the Patriots crave in their defensive players. The Patriots have also re-signed LB/ST Tracy White today.

i'm just going to list anybody that was on the roster last year and is not under contract at this point as out. players in the OUT column that have been cut are in italics. conversely, players in the IN column that have been re-signed (or franchised) are in italics.
____________IN_________________________OUT_____________ Wes Welker (WR)----------------Shaun Ellis (DE) Dan Connolly (C)----------------Dan Koppen (C) Matt Slater (WR/DB)--------------James Ihedigbo (S) Tracy White (LB)-----------------Mark Anderson (DE) - Buffalo Jonathan Fanene (DL)-------------Andre Carter (DE) Brandon Lloyd (WR)---------------Kevin Faulk (RB) - retired Anthony Gonzalez (WR)------------Benjarvus Green-Ellis (RB) - Cincinnati Niko Koutouvides (LB)-------------Mike Wright (DT) Steve Gregory (S)-----------------Rich Ornberger (OG) Robert Gallery (OG)---------------Gerrard Warren (DT) Daniel Fells (TE)-----------------Antwaun Molden (CB) Donte Stallworth (WR)------------Gary Guyton (LB) Marquice Cole (DB) Will Allen (CB) Deion Branch (WR) Spencer Larsen (FB/LB)

I love the B. Lloyd signing in that it is inexpensive relative to the crazy WR market; hopefully he feels less pressure for success.

i think the big thing is that he's already worked w/ McDaniels/this playbook/this offense.
Oh yes, that, too. Lloyd has also never had a QB like Brady.
I for one want to see them do more for the defense, but I guess that will come in April. That said, it'll be interesting to see how Lloyd impacts the offense, considering they had a record year for a TE and what would have been the most passing yards by a QB ever if not for Brees's season.
i'm surprised they haven't done something w/ Chad Johnson yet.

I hope they use the two first round picks and the two second round picks ALL on defense.
I hate him, but I love that when he identifies a weakness (WR in this case) he doesn't put all his eggs in one expensive basket but goes out there and smothers the problem by bringing in a crapton of guys to address the issue.
