So I admit I am not THAT aware of the names in the Dodgers farm system, but I don't see where the sox got too much in the way of talent coming back- just filler. However, they obviously gained a TON in salary relief (which of course doesn't matter to coach, because they can spend an infinite amount of money.)

So which guys are going to
A. Sign With the Red Sox for too much money
B. Get Extremely overhyped by the boston fan base
c. Ultimately disappoint and be part of a similar trade in 2014?

Gordon Edes is trying to sell De La Rosa as a top end starter. He just came back from Tommy John surgery, threw 97 last week.

I honestly dont care if they get a thing back in return, this trade would fix the disaster Theo left them with in one trade and it would give them the flexibility they need to do things they would have to to get this thing back on track.

I'm worried they fuck it all up again by throwing a crapload of money at Greinke, Hamilton, or both

one of the first things I said when I heard this was "they better not go out and give 100 million to fucking Zack Greinke."

keep in mind that Edes is a mouthpiece for Luchhino.

This seems too good to be true, how can the Dodgers be willing to take on one huge contract for a player who while good, hasnt lived up to it, and 3 terrible deals on top of it. It's one thing to find a team that would take Beckett, it's a whole different thing to find one who would take Beckett and the majority of his contract, then you throw the Crawford deal into it too? Even Punto, how the hell are they getting them to take Punto? Then they get not top prospects, but decent prospects in return? It's insanity. The other thing I cant believe is that all the people on MLB network, ESPN, etc. are lauding this as a huge coup for the Dodgers. Do they have any idea what's gone on here the last year? Gonzalez has proven himself to be a player that can put up numbers for a time, but disappears when the games matter. Crawford, I dont have a beef with, but he had Tommy John surgery YESTERDAY, and just isnt the type of player that merits a 100million dollar deal. Punto is what he is, but he's hitting like 190 and is signed for next year too! Then Beckett, who is the biggest clubhouse cancer in the game of baseball.

It does seem too good to be true. I can't believe the Sox are only paying $12m of the remaining salaries.

The next two things they do should be:

1) immediately re-sign Ortiz to a 2 year, 25 millionish extension

2) release Lackey

not that I've followed baseball all that closely this year (for obvious reasons), but is Punto the type of utility guy the Dodgers have a need for? it's not like his contract is all that onerous

also, Beckett will be better pitching in the NL West...he might not be worth the salary he makes, but he'll earn a lot more of it out there than he ever would here in the AL East

once Crawford is healthy, he fits LA really well I think...and Gonzalez goes back out west where things are more laid back, and there aren't so many of those darn Sunday night games...

I must admit I'm kind of sad to see Crawford go, I loved being able to tell people "I told you so" with him :P

Pressure's on now to bring back Ellsbury when he hits free agency.

I'd trade Saltalamacchia for sure and explore what I could get for Ellsbury this offseason. I think the only way they should keep Ellsbury (who I can't imagine them re-signing) is if they're convinced that what they have and whatever they add in the meantime can win a world series next year.

I love getting rid of Crawford and Beckett, but it kills me that Gonzalez is gone. He's a made-for-Fenway hitter that is a great guy to have on your team. The salary relief is super, but they have to manage it well.

Cherington certainly has put his mark on this team, though. Good for him, let's hope he's able to convince the front office to be smart with their spending and not screw it up.

Trading Gonzo was the price you had to pay to dump Beckett and Crawford. To be able to do that, while paying almost none of the outgoing salaries, and actually get something back required giving them a premier hitter.

I was clearly on board with the Gonzo trade when it happened (genius!) but having Beltre and Rizzo on the corners looks a lot better at this point.
