after that 2004 world series, i encountered a most belligerent, insufferable parade of peckerwoods singing this team's praises. i still have not recovered from it.

It's true. That, and the shit load of epic winning happening all at the same time with the B's, C's and Pats.

The B's were doing epic winning in 2007 and prior?

Pfft, they were barely doing regular winning back then.

I was making a general statement about how Boston has been dominating the sports scene.

I'm enjoying the collapse of this franchise almost as much as I enjoyed their 2004 WS win.

I dont think they could have put a team together that was more loathsome if that's what they set out to do. I love this stat, 17 players attended the attempted coup to get Valentine fired, and 4 attended Johnny Pesky's funeral.

Sean McAdams is reporting the Dodgers also claimed Josh Beckett.

No way anyone wold claim Beckett unless it was to be part of a bigger deal. Come Monday this could be a very different team.

If I'm the Sox, I just let them have Beckett. If they can't get something decent for Gonzalez, I'd keep him.

Well yeah, if a larger deal doesn't get done they can still pull back gonzo and hand them beckett's contract. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they put the claim in for gonzo and got on the phone with boston who said "we're not working anything out unless you take on beckett as well".

Blockbuster: red Sox, Dodgers working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA. Hurdles remain, but closing in
