So it begins. Another year of the rollercoaster ride that is associated with being a leafs fan.

It's been a busy summer. There has been an upgrade in goal and we have added another feisty player who can hopefully repeat his last years total. That and the sideshow that is Mark Bell.

With the first game of the preseason being tonight I can already feel the beginning of the season around the corner. Unfortunately I won't be able to follow the leafs as closely this year with my work schedule being in the way. I'll be able to catch the 3rd period of most games and I have thursdays off which thankfully the leafs play quite a few of.

Who do you think will make the biggest impact in a leaf jersey this season and realistically what are your expections for the season?

ah yes I got this for the 3rd period. I'd kill to be in the leafs region. It's stupid how the maritimes are Sens territory.

Gamache looked good tonight and so did Pogge. I see kaberle still doesn't shoot the puck. McCabe's goal was nice .

Just glad I can see me some Leafs hockey, I mean being in Utah and all. And if it's not on Vs. or NBC, I usually don't get to see a hockey game unless the Colorado Avs are playing and it's televised on the Colorado station that gets broadcast to Utah.

I think Stajan is going to have a breakout season this year. With a definate upgrade in goal, and the addition of Blake and Bell up front, plus the continual improvement of Poni and Antropov, they're looking much better this year.

Prediction, 5th in the east.

History wise, the Habs are the Yankees of hockey.

And yeah, I'm really hoping to see a couple young guys crack the team... it's fun to watch the preseason to see what kind of an impact the rookies can have and watch them trying to find a roster spot.

Sweet, I had to turn off the computer (I was at the parents house) and didn't get to see the finish.

Who scored the final goal?

If Bates Battaglia makes this team over Gamache or Salmalinen then Maurice/JFJ better give their head a shake. Watching Battaglia try to play hockey is like watching a salmon drive a car.

Toskala didn't get off to the best start but he certainly did make some big time saves. I think the idea of a 50/30 split Toskala/Raycroft may be a useful goaltending tandem.

It may only be Pre-Season but I already hate the Senators.

Harrison, Tlusty among final Leaf Cuts

TSN.ca Staff

The Toronto Maple Leafs trimmed down their roster Monday, cutting goaltender Scott Clemmensen, forwards Jiri Tlusty, Simon Gamache, Tony Salmelainen, Jeremy Williams and Ben Ondrus and defenceman Jay Harrison.

Clemmensen, Gamache, Harrison, Ondrus, Salmelainen and Williams must clear waivers.

Clemmensen played six games for the New Jersey Devils last season, registering a 1-1-2 record and a 3.15 goals against average. He also played one game and had a shutout for the American Hockey League's Lowell Devils.

He has played in 25 career NHL games, all with New Jersey, registering a 7-6-4 record with a 2.82 goals against average.

Clemmensen has also competed in 146 career AHL games with Albany and Lowell, earning a record of 36-81-21, a .903 save percentage, a 2.89 goals against average and four shutouts.

Gamache, 26, from Thetford Mines, Que., led the Swiss Elite League with 66 points (20-46) in 44 games with Bern. He tied for the league lead with 16 playoff points (7-9). must clear waivers before reporting to the Marlies.

After what I have seen in pre-season there is no way in hell Battaglia or Deveraux should be on the roster over Gamache, Salmelainen, or even Tlusty.

This is going to be a repeat from last year's Leafs thread, but I just have to say that between the Mets last night and Wellwood looking like he'll be out for the start of the season, I may cry.

I'm SO excited for tomorrow night! YEOW!

What the hell are the lines to start the year? Here's what my guess is, based on the little I've heard:

Antropov/Sundin/Blake <--- I heard that would be the first line
Ponikarovsky/Pohl/Tucker<--- educated guess, I suppose
Steen/Stajan/Kilger <--- pretty much a wild guess
Battaglia/Devereaux/Newbury <--- same, just guessing

Wellwood coming back would put him with Poni and Tucker, which I like a lot... the creative setup man with a couple good finishers. When Bell's back hopefully he can slide in and help out a little with some scoring and another physical presence.

I believe we are looking at:

Antro/Mats/Blake
Tucker/Kilger/Pohl (something like that)
ponivarovsky/steen/Stajan
bates :x /newbury/deveraux

and Raycroft gets the start tonight according to most sources. It's only fair I guess as it's his job to lose.
