a two out single in the bottom of the ninth that barely eluded howie kendrick's glove, scoring jason bay from second for the win to advance his team to the ALCS. this guy's got a master's degree in clutch. grit, i don't know about just yet entirely, but he did get the hit off a nasty scot shields curveball, and you've got to be pretty gritty to hang in and get a hit off that pitch. i mean, it could have hit his foot if he missed! pretty boy a-rod won't do that.

this thread should also really at least give a shout out to jason bay, who was nearly as clutch in his own right with that double down the line.
