I'm sure you're all aware that short of a miracle, the Sonics will be leaving Seattle within at least the next few years if not sooner. It's a big topic here locally (duh) but I haven't seen much coverage at all from the national (sports) media.
What do all y'all think about this outside of the Pacific Northwest? Angry? Happy? Shocked? Do you even care?
Sure hasn't helped that David Stern has been such a prick in this whole situation. What a weasel.

It's absolutely disgusting how little respect Stern has shown for the city of Seattle. He's really a sorry piss of a man, stubborn and egotistical, and has no right running the NBA. I find this whole deal is even more deplorable than the double standards he applied to the Suns franchise last year.

I honestly sometimes forget the Sonics are the in the NBA. Just one of those teams you never hear about during the season and never really give the average fan much of a reason to care.

I think it's a joke. Stern lets this guy buy the team and promise to do his best to keep them in Seattle but from Day 1 planned on moving them to Oklahoma City. The NBA should be embarrased at the situation.

the last few years have shown the emperor (Stern) has no clothes. From the ridiculous dress code, to changing the ball, to changing the playoff format MID-SEASON, and now this mess.
Perhaps this guy was overrated all along and simply was lucky to have Jordan, Bird, and Magic around during his early years on the job.

I don't see what the problem with the dress code is.
Changing the ball was stupid.
They didn't change the playoff format in the middle of the season, they changed it after 06 when Dallas and San Antonio met in the conference semis.
This Seattle situation is disgraceful, but Stern is still the best commissioner of the three major sports.

a few years ago they changed the first round to 7 games instead of 5 in the middle of the season.

what difference does that make? isn't the effect the same whether it was changed midseason or in the offseason?

find me another example in the history of american sports when the playoff format was changed mid season. The effect is obviously the same, but there's a right way and a wrong way to go about doing things. Dropping a surprise like that on your fans and players mid season is more than a little bit odd.

um, ok. i don't remember very many people being upset about it because as we've both agreed it doesn't make any difference. odd maybe but it doesn't exactly belong on a list of Stern's transgressions.

It was definitely questioned at the time. There's a reason every other sport announces things like that during the offseason. When exactly is the cutoff? Would you feel the same way if he announced it 3 days before the first round?

The real disgusting part about all this is how sports franchises have become entitled to the notion that the taxpayers should fund their facilities. I applaud Seattle for taking a stand, even if it means some short term pain.
One thing I hope the NBA does is what the NFL did with the Cleveland Browns--force the owners to leave the Sonics name & history in Seattle and treat the OKC team as an "expansion" franchise.

It's disgraceful. David Stern is the worst sports commissioner in history not named Gary Bettman, and at least the latter doesn't clearly fix games.
If it wasn't for the Celtics having such an excellent year I might give up on the NBA for good. I've fucking had it.

I'm about there. I think the final straw for me is his justification for suspending Stoudemire and Diaw last year, and then his failure to enforce the same exact rule even though Marvin Williams even admitted he broke that rule. Also, I'm pretty sure the article about Williams and Perkins not being suspended misteriously disappeared from the internet. Real shady.
And he's basically turned the NBA into a league of pussies with the pathetic officiating.
