So, this is the only hockey that really maintains my interest without the NHL around. I once again expect to draw little interest as has happened at previous incarnations of the board, but I'm posting anyways. So my team (Michigan St.) is sucking balls. It's a very odd situation. The AD of the school is the former hockey coach who everyone loves. He hand picked his successor, quite a great coach in his own right having won a championship and 600+ games. Yet they fucking blow this year.

Anyways, since nobody cares about the Spartans at this point, even I've given up a lot of hope after tonight, are there any other college fans out there? How about that Michigan Tech upset of Minnesota on Friday? Where are the Husky fans? Whoo! I must say Colorado College is looking damn fine this year. I got to know some of their boosters and fans a few years back, and I must say I root for them. I mean, hockey is all they have in athletic terms. They deserve a championship. Oh yeah, Yost is a dump and the fans should be able to think up more innovative chants than random vulgarities when they try to claim themselves as the Ivy League school of the Midwest. :D

Yet another MSU choke job. Win 8-0, tie 2-2. How this team has fallen so far from last year is beyond me.

I'm still around to represent for my BC Eagles. Admittedly I haven't seen too much this year, I've only been to one game, a blowout win at Northeastern in November, and I've seen bits and pieces of a few games here and there on TV. Once the Beanpot gets going though I become a much better behaved fan. I'll be at both Beanpot rounds, the Hockey East tourney at the fleet, the regionals in Worcester and UMass and the Frozen Four in Columbus, OH. It's funny that more people don't get into college hockey because it is such a great game, especially in person and the tickets are really cheap.

I think the main reason is it just doesn't get that much publicity, and very little TV coverage. Also, the pro counterpart, even when they were playing, never drew all that much attention in the US in comparison to other sports. Hell, there were times in undergrad when I wanted to strangle the sports editor at Michigan St's student paper for not covering the hockey team. I mean, if you have a team ranked #1 in the nation or have a goalie having arguably one of the greatest seasons in college history, you'd think that would garner some attention. Fucking idiots.

Plus, CSTV bought a vast majority of rights to air college hockey last year and I think they are stuck in the contract with them. I'm sure if the NCAA was still in limbo with no TV contract they'd be offering cheap rates to ESPN to gain exposure.

I have never been to a game, but I would love to go. I used to go by Madison on my way up to Portage when I was a kid. Madison is a lovely town, but I haven't been there in years.

My favorite local player used to play for the Badgers a few years ago. :P
