Okay, so here's a guy who pitched like shit last year and was often called out by his teammates as being an asshole in the clubhouse... so he says this in response to writers saying he had a bad year:

"Why didn't I have a great year? I had 11 wins, didn't I? There's guys making $10 million that didn't have 11 wins. So why are you saying I didn't have a good year? Because my ERA was bad? I won 11 [games]. So let's just drop it at that."

"Did I have a good year? No. But I had 11 wins. So anybody who wants to talk about I didn't have a good year or anything like that, you can go back and look at all the other stats of guys who didn't win 11 games that are making $10 million."

So, 11 wins with that sort of an ERA is a good year?

"In my personal opinion? No," Myers said. "But I'm just trying to tell you guys, you keep talking shit about I didn't have a damn good year and I won 11 fucking games... For [reporters] to say that about what I said? That's not right."

"So I'm supposed to win 20 my first 2 years? I was three off what I did before," Myers said. "You can't name guys that didn't struggle their second [full] year. You guys love Schilling. How good was he his first 3 years? He wasn't outstanding."

Only one pitcher who pitched at least 150 innings as a starter in the National League had a higher earned run average than Myers' 5.52.

GOD... this guy is such a fucking idiot... and we never have enough fucking idiots on the Phillies... woohoo... did his Schilling comments kind of piss off anybody else? What a pompous fuckhead

Yeah but how DO you respond to a stupid question like that?

It'd be like walking up to Shaq and shoving a microphone in his face and asking him "Do you think old fatasses can compete in the NBA?"

I'm surprised he didn't blame his high era on the tiny park that the Phils play in. You really can't put the blame all on Myers. It's not like he was surrounded by a great defense.
I had planned on getting a Sunday season ticket package this year, but after Bowa was fired and Wade wasn't, I waivered a little. After the Phillies made no effort to get Hudson from the A's I gave up. When you have a ballpark where just about any routine pop-up has a chance to clear the fence, you don't let one of the best ground-ball pitchers in the league go to your division rival. Get ready for yet another Atlanta division title.

Given, but their questions weren't like, "You suck dick at pitching," they were like, "What were your impressions on your subpar year in 04..." he just completely overreacted..

And as far as Citizens Bank Park goes, no other pitcher seemed to have the problems keeping the ball in the park that Myers did, and he comes back with this, "I had 11 wins, that's all that matters! Who cares about ERA???" I understand it's a severe hitters park, but that doesn't mean that gives him an excuse to have an ERA near SIX

Eric "luckiest pitcher in the world" Milton had the same problem, but I doubt that had to do with the park.

This all may be a moot point anyways, considering the Phillies let Tim Hudson and Carlos Delgado into the division without doing anything themselves

Not to mention Pedro and Beltran. At least they'll still be able to beat up on the Nationals.

The Phillies had the opportunity to get Hudson but the A's wanted a few of the "untouchables". Wade had a ton of offers this offseason but didn't want to give up any young talent. It looks like Ryan Howard maybe trade bait come the deadline. Everyone else is staying put.

Don't feel so bad Parchy.

Washed up loser John Rocker, was screaming at people that he was a racist and what were they going to do about it as loudly as possible over the weekend at one of my favorite bars, Fontaines in the Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta.

At least you can take solace in the fact that your team actually wants to win Paco, Rocker or no

I'd take Brett Myers' talent on my team any day of the week.
Unfortunately for Philly, that tiny little field they have is too much of a launching pad for many pitchers to succeed.

2 years ago, hell, ONE year ago he was the pitching darling of the entire organization and you're already throwing in the towel on the guy. What happens when Gavin Floyd or Ryan Howard have a rough start to their career? Fuck them too?

Brett Myers didn't get along with Joe Kerrigan. Now that Kerrigan is gone we shall see what happens. Gavin Floyd should give Myers a run for the 5th spot.

He was never the darling of the organization... merely a promising young player... he chafed with Kerrigan but a lot of his teammates have said that a lot of his character flaws had more to do with dealing with frustration (which we've all seen he can't do)... he had problems learning from Kerrigan and Bowa... boo fucking hoo... I'm so sick of excuses from the Phillies at this point, and I hope you can understand why... I'll give him an automatic 3.50 ERA because of the park... after that it's your fault

The Phillies have some of the best positional minor league talent in the league and they can't utilize them... what do you propose the Phils do with Howard? He can't play anywhere but 1B and thanks to the NL he's going to be a career pinch hitter on the Phillies... Thome is signed through 2008, and judging by the way Howard has been playing I highly doubt he's going to be content with being in limbo between AAA and the Phillies bench for that time... and I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited about any minor league pitching talent anymore.. the park just hammers new pitchers... Floyd has some amazing stuff, but until I see with my own eyes a pitcher have an ERA below 4 then I might agree that guys like Cole Hamels and Gavin Floyd have a chance... At this point, Randy Wolf is their only hope

Do you know how many starters there were in all of MLB that produced an ERA under 3.5 last season?

The Phillies would be nuts to move Thome to make room for Howard. Utterly insane. Howard has horrible, awful, terrible strike zone judgment that will end up destroying his potential.
I propose they trade Howard while he still has value.

Dude, not many starters have ERAs below 4 either. You might want to reconsider your criteria for evaluating pitchers.

They're not going anywhere during the duration of the Thome contract, so why not?

And what tells you about his strike zone judgment? He had 46 walks in 102 games at Reading last year and 14 in 29 at Scranton. His worst full season obp is .367. Is he getting a ton of intentional walks or what?
