it all began back in the playoffs in 1996. I did not have season tickets yet. But my brother somehow (waiting over night in foxboro, yes this was before teams avoided massive amounts of people waiting outside the ticket office) got tickets for the pats / steelers playoff game. I was only 16 years old so I was probably just sucking my thumb back home hoping that my brother would actually get tickets for the game (and he did).
So come the day of the game we are tailgating. And we are right next to one single guy in a plush steelers helmet (and i mean a fucking helmet made out of the same fucking material a teddy bear is made out of, just absolutely fucking rediculous looking). And yes he's by himself, just talking up a storm of shit, mostly we all laughed it up. And I don't have any quotes to back it up but i know "the bus" was talking shit the whole week before the game saying how he'll run all over the NE defense (becomes #1 most hated player in NFL to me). to make a long story short the pats ended up winning the "fog bowl" (the stadium was covered in fog) 28-3. At the end we saw the "plush steeler fan" walking back to his car looking like a lost puppy dog (absolutely classic by the way).
flash ahead........ pats lose the next playoff game against the steelers 7-6 (blocked from memory).
Then comes the AFC championship game a few years later( I purchase "Steelers Suck" t-shirt). No one..... and i mean no one gives the pats a chance to win this game. But of course they do.... and after the game what does that gay QB for the Steelers say???? And i quote........ "Sometimes the best team doesn't always win." (replaces that fat shit "the bus" as #1 most hated guy in the NFL) I'm sorry Kordell just fucking suck it up and accept the loss.
flash ahead to the next year... first game (also their first game at gillette). The Pats absolutely fucking crush them (oh yeah I have season tickets now for a few years, got them back in 1999). During the second half while the Pats are up by 1 million points (well not 1 million but up by alot) the stadium plays the video on the jumbotron of Kordell making the famous quote "Sometimes the best team doesn't always win."...... shortly after going into over the PA "we are the champions"..... just classic.
flash ahead to this year (wearing "Steelers Suck t-shirt that I have worn on many a day over the past couple years just because.... but now i finally have a reason again), Pats lose without Corey Dillon (yeah and Ty Law too I know....... but he won't be there again if the Pats play them). Absolutely crushing, sure the sox lose games to the yankees, but they also play them 19 times a season. This loss crushes me, not only do we lose the game, we lose home field and the steelers fucking go 15-1........ how?!?!!?!!??!?! (i guess people say that about the Pats and 14-2 also though).
In my heart I really think that i hate the Steelers more then i hate the Yankees. Atleast the Yankees have won something in recent history, and their fans have something to talk about and rub in your face. But the Steelers have not, but yet their fans have talked shit up and down (atleast the ones i have ran into).
I will enjoy going into Pitt. and beating them on their own turf. watching that sea of "terrible towels" wave for the first 5 minutes of the game, and then go silent....... again........ i really hate them.

It's time for the Steelers to bring it home. Don't blame a whole team because of a fan or a player. Nobody's perfect. The Steelers deserve it this year. And they should do it.
As a Pittsburgh-born native, I've have yet to see the Steelers win a Superbowl in my lifetime. I've heard all about the Terry Bradshaw -era and the four Superbowls. I'd like to think that I could see it just once for myself. Not a big deal if I don't, but it would be nice.
I just think anger about a game that you won't even be playing in is kind of silly. Maybe if you were out on the field with the Pats, I could see your frustration more. But honestly, we are not out on that field. These guys get paid millions, even when they lose. In the end, I don't think it's a big deal.
The Steelers, in my opinion, played the best this season and I think that's pretty good alone. The Superbowl would be nice. But if they don't even make it, they've got 15-1 and they beat the team that got them once this season and they beat the Pats. But any way it would've gone down, I would've been cool with it.
Not a big deal. But I just feel the pride and something to be excited about. Go Steelers.
God bless and good luck and better skill,
Jared

pats have a score to settle and will get it done vs. Pittsburgh this time, imo
You forgot one He's got 2 of them. Have the Steelers had once since Bradshaw?
I think you meant this one
Funny you say that, how's Parcells' golf game going?
He's golfing Myrtle Beach tommorow in the "No Talent Classic" along with the rest of the Cowboys roster. They're leaving room for the Pats to join next week though.

But remember, the Pat's still ONLY have TWO of those....the Steelers have FOUR. Big deal, so the Pats won a few Super Bowls recently (and finally I might ad)..hats off to your team! Are they the most dominant team around and a "dynasty" like the media is cracking them up to be?
They won two Super Bowls in a three year span. While that is impressive it's not "dynasty" impressive. When you look at the teams that most people refer to as dynasty's, most of them have one thing in common...back to back championships.(i.e. GB, MIA, DAL, SF, PIT, Yankees, Bulls, Lakers etc.). The Steelers achieved that feat not just once, but twice (a feat that no other team has ever accomplished). My point being this; to be legitimately considered as a "dynasty", your team needs to put together several years of consistent success both in the regular and post-seasons...not just three years. Since Belichicks arrival in NE, the Patriots have been a great team, I will give you all that. But are they at that point where they should be considered a team of dynasty? I don't think so.
But it bugs me when I always hear these Patriot fans talk smack like; "what have the Steelers done recently?" Well, I will tell you what the Steelers have done recently. Since 1970 the Steelers have appeared in 21 of a possible 34 postseasons. In the last 10 years, the Steelers have appeared in 4 AFC Championship games and played in one Super Bowl. While they haven't won a championship recently, they have at least been consistently competitive THROUGHOUT their franchises entire history and have always put themselves in the position of being able to win more championships. Who knows, A bounce here, or a call there or a play made somewhere in one of those games and we might just be talking about the Steelers having at least 5 or 6 Super Bowl trophies.

that's weak. if you were at least 7 yearsw old during any of that then maybe i'll let it slide but who gives a fuck about shit 25 years ago. I don't. that stuff was waaaay before our time. Nobody cares and most people don't know what happened back then. The Pats are clearly THE team in this time. I hate to say it but they are. if you win next week you can talk shit but please don't bring up shit about Jack lambert, Rocky Blier, LC Greenwood and Jack Ham....if you even know who they are

I used to follow the Steelers when Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swan, Joe Green, etc. played. When Franco Harris stopped playing I sort of stopped paying attention until Stewart (#10) was QB. But really, when the Monday Night Football line up changed (when Deirdorf and Gifford were no longer on with Al Michaels), I stopped watching altogether. The Steelers are still my favorite team, if someone asks.
i was at a buddys bachelor party the night Princess Di was killed. apparently there was another party in a room at the club we were at, and it was alot of steelers (and other pittsburgh sports folk) there. they came out and we were like, there lambert (he looked almost sickly) and out comes tunch ilkin. hes one of the radio guys for them now, and i jokingly said, and i guess a little bit loud, holy shit, theres tunch.
i think he was so happy to be recognized, he came over and left his wife/gf and talked to us for 5 or so minutes. it was comical, cause it was akin to saying, he look, its the little girl from Growing Pains

Steelers have a bigger score to settle...beating the Pats in the playoffs (which they haven't been able to do for a while).

Peeps,
I fucking LOVE you. You post something that has Tunch Ilkin in it! That is too cool!
You, sir, are now the man!
And I'm NOT joking either, I loved him! Brian Hinkle and David Little were also awesome.

Well there Clubber, seeing how I'm 34 and having been a Steeler fan all my life and I can vividly remember watching two of those '70's Super Bowl wins. So while it may have been waaaay before your time, it wasn't for me.
The reality is this, there are plenty of people out there who care about the shit that happened 25 years ago in the NFL, that's why they play these games year in and year out. Why do you think they have a Hall of Fame? Why do you think they keep records of regular season games and Super Bowls as well as various team and individual records? For the hell of it? So you mean to tell me that 25 years from now Patriot fans and the NFL won't talk or care about their consecutive games won streak? Sorry Clubber, your argument is weak.

Tunch does the radio broadcasts with that senile old bastard Myron Cope. I'd give anything to see the pats come back into pittsburgh this year for the AFC championship game but i think they'll get beat by the colts.

Alright, I guess we needed ANOTHER thread about the Steelers sucking and then of course there's the inevitable Pats tie in. The bottom line is that on any given day, either team could beat the other. They're professional athletes. Hell, Miami even showed up for a game this season! I'm rooting for the Steelers but there's no guarentees. So everyone can either continue this pointless banter, or you guys can actually talk about the football stuff so that I can fucking LEARN something!

Hahahahaha awesome.
Want me to start telling you about how awesome the Lions are and brining out the championships won by Lem Barney and Alex Karras?
Yeah the Steelers have been a great franchise, but they haven't won shit since before I was born.
