I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that 95% of NFL athletes are tools/douches/head cases and have little to not contact with reality/social tact/common sense. Seriously, there's very few people that I would respect as people in the NFL. Same goes for the NBA.

I'm gonna go out on a much smaller limb and suggest that professional athletes are far more like average people than you would choose to believe, with maybe a few more douches because of the extra money and talent going to their head.

Yes, you're right. Cutler gets a free pass because #1, his douchiness, if it was present, wasn't caught on camera, #2, he's the QB for my team (I even gave Romonowski a free pass when he was a Bronco, & he was a HUGE tool), & #3, he's nowhere near the douchenozzle that Rivers is.
