bad ass player for Texas, especially during the Shock the Nation season (my freshman year) - there are some legendary stories about him, including one where he kicked the crap out of some Aggie lineman on South Padre Island on spring break. supposedly as a 16 year old Gold Gloves boxer he was regularly beating guys 10 years older.

really sad. there are rumors it was a suicide, no idea if that's true.

But yes, that is a significant overreaction. I didnt knock the man, or his death... I simply pointed out a "WHOOO?" element that is going to be the case for a lot of people. I remember him because he was briefly a Lion (if memory serves).. But really, the sad truth is a disproportionate # of professional football players (especially lineman) die too young... and really, Shane Dronett is not a very high profile player.

Epilogue - Suicide.

He had a Brain Tumor. Just like many other former NFL players with head injuries and another former Falcon who has also died recently Craig "Ironhead" Heyward whose son plays for Ohio State.

The rate former NFL players are dying young is alarming. I certainly hope this is cause for alarm in the NFL and the players union and maybe they can help bolster the health care of at least needy retired former players.

The kind of body collisions like Ryan Clark and Willis Mcgahee experienced the other night are not good for the body at all.
