Basketball - id hope the team played a zone, both my team and the team im playing against. id get 4:14 seconds of playing time at the end of the blowout. id be 1-2 from the floor and would miss the front end of a one and one. id have 3 turnovers, two coming off of stupid passes i thought i could squeeze through. my lone shot i make would be from behind the arc

I played some pretty competitive hockey when i was younger, and watching a lot of hockey sometimes you might think "goddamn, if i was fitter and bigger, i could have made it" That being said, seeing that shootout goal by that rangers defenseman (forget his name) who hadn't scored a goal all season and he made that between the legs move like it was nothing...it makes you realize how good these guys are, and that you never stood a chance to make it.
I played a little bit of university residence hockey...there were a lot of guys that had played some competitive hockey in high school, so it was competitive. One year a friend of mine decided to play on the team. He had played junior hockey in the OHL and had stopped because of injuries ( i believe). He played on my line, and let me tell you something: I never scored more goals in my life than playing with that guy...he wasn't even trying at all. Every once in a while he would show off and make a move on a defenseman or a goalie that showed everyone how much better he was.
So yeah, NHL players are fucking amazing...execpt the leafs last night

my friend plays pickup games here. dont ask me how, but joey mullen (former penguin) joined their team. even as much older he is than everyone, he just dances around people and will rarely if ever take advantage of his skill to the point to embarss someone.
i think thats what some people think, even if you consider college sports, the 12th man or 15th man or however many there are on a team, even that last guy would make most look silly to say the least.
what OHL team did you buddy play for? my same friend worked for the erie otters for quite a few years, and the last time they had the draft in pittsburgh, i believe 4 or 5 otters went

Oh shit I don't think I can remember...he was really a residence acquaintance for a year. His name was Jaret and he was from St John's. He was a crazy drunk that got along with everyone...and at first we weren't all convinced that he was telling the truth. But once he started playing with us, we knew.
That's really cool about Joe Mullen...he was a great NHLer I would love to play some pickup hockey in a situation like that, just to see how much better they are, even after they retire. I remember watching an oldtimers game years ago and Henri Richard - who was already acient at that point - was skating around and making moves better than i could

The speed and my lack of coordination I think is what would kill me most even at my best level of fitness and strength. TV makes great athletes look slower than they really are. I would get smoked. Every bone in my body would be broken. I wasn't quite up to the pace in college.
I'd say the biggest difference between the common man and the pro is generally the speed or quickness. Every level is that much quicker even the Arena League in football has some big hits at great speed. It's one think to cut back in high school or college it's another when you also have to dieke a guy who is fast if not faster than you.
That's just one reason I think we are so marveled by Kobe or Lebron or say the ability of Michael Vick. Making pro athletes look silly takes more than just practicing jump shots or running sprints and lifting a few weights.
It would be like a dad playing keep away from a 5 year old.

I'd let in 3 goals on 8 shots after being called up from the minors to play backup for a night and come in when the starting goalie is yanked for letting in soft goals and never play again.

Growing up I played with or against a few guys who have gone on to play in the NHL and the results weren't good then so I'm guessing they'd be even worse now. My sophomore year in high school we lost in the finals of the state championship game despite outshooting the opposition something like 40-15 because some kid named DiPietro was in goal for them.

I remember going up to see Titans games (Quebec Major Junior Hockey) and I saw a few games when they played against Lecavalier...he was INSANE. Some players you just know they're gonna be great.
