Funny that, seeing I am already playing a mallet....I will look into that. It's really only the confidence that is shot at the moment. I had a ridiculously good run where I holed everything, then had one bad one and haven't quite recovered.
Also had to get rid of the Great Big Bertha after 10 loyal years. Times change. Gonna get a Wilson Smooth 460cc + maybe a 3 wood as well.

No offense, but the Wilson is more of a players club. Check out the Taylor Made Burner, the Callaway Diablo and the Cleveland Launcer and High Bore.

My ignorance excused, what's a players club? I have to admit price played a fair part in my decision as I get half price from a mate who is a rep with Wilson, but have had a few rounds with it and been happy with results.
I find it harder to shape shots if that's what you mean, but that's not of real importance to me. I had a round with a Burner on Saturday and it did go well, but it felt largely the same.

101 a couple weekends ago. Pretty good for my first time out. Going by the past few years, I will probably play two to three more times this year and probably pull around a 93 as my best score.

didn't realise you were a golfer Deano. don't get to play as much as I would like but if I had time, money etc I reckon I could hit a single figure handicap. Lowest round mid 80s two yrs back when I played bout once a week for a summer.

That's to say I WAS a 2.6 last week...I am now a 3.5 after a 70 and a 71 dropped off to be replaced by two 77s (dunno if our handicap system is the same as the US/Europe).
I reckon if a lot of you had the luxury of playing 3/4 times a week like I was in summer, you'd go okay too.
I drive it pretty well and my putting is red-hot when it's on but hell, my chipping is terrible. Like 20 handicap terrible. I really need lessons, or at least practice it more.
I've bought the Wilson Smooth so i'll check in after the weekend with how it went.
Anyone here had a hole in one? Or what's our most memorable golf moment? I haven't, closest is about 2 inches on holiday. Longest shot i've holed was a 75yard lob wedge and probably proudest moment was driving a 320 yard par 4 and holing the putt. I must admit it was downwind and in the grips of a bone dry summer, but hell i'll take it.

I hope I'm not derailing this too bad, but here goes. I'm finally getting into golf, tonight after work will be my 3rd trip to the driving range this week. So I'm going to be looking for a starter set of clubs, mostly likely used from craigslist. So being cheap is a big plus, but is there any basic advice you guys can give me like brands to stay away from, etc. Thanks.
