Arroyo sings, Jeter swings and what Bonds' ball brings By MARC TOPKIN, Times Staff Writer

Bronson Arroyo has a solid windup. It turns out that he has a pretty smooth delivery, too.
Having established himself as a major-league starter and winning a World Series with the Red Sox, the Hernando High grad fulfilled another dream by cutting his first album.
Covering the Bases, a CD of Arroyo covering mostly '90s rock, is tentatively set for a July 12 national release, with the possibility of a July 13 concert in Boston and an ensuing DVD.
"He's awesome," said veteran record producer Loren Harriet. "He's unbelievable how good he sounds. People are going to get blown away by it. He really has that special thing, whatever that special thing is. I think he's Roy Hobbs."
Arroyo may be a natural for the rock scene. Harriet said Arroyo has an " Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam/Alice in Chains kind of vibe" and tons of talent.
"This is not a novelty, and it's not vanity," he said. "He has some background in music. He loves to sing. He's very, very good at it. And he's ready to go to the next level."
