I can't believe no one has started this thread yet.

I know Garnett is injured, but there is still a lot to see this year, folks. An exciting but unproven Portland team. Lebron potentially having to go through Wade, Howard, and Kobe. Other young talents like Rose and Paul who will need to step up to give their teams a chance. A battered SA playing for pride against one of their toughest matchups. Surely I'm not the only one interested to watch all this?

My predictions:
Spoiler: show
Lakers in 5
Portland in 7
Dallas in 6
Denver in 7
Cleveland in 5
Miami in 7
Orlando in 5
Boston in 6

Lakers in 7 over Portland
Denver in 6 over Dallas
Cleveland in 6 over Miami
Orlando in 6 over Boston

Cleveland in 7 over Orlando
Lakers in 5 over Denver

Lakers in 6 over Cleveland (though I'll be rooting for Cleveland :( )

The Heat won't get past Atlanta.

The fact he picked Houston to win is too shocking to just put out there... after all, they have possibly the most overrated player in the history of sport.

Von Wafer?

I'm guessing that's the guy who is currently 7-7 with 16 pts with 4 mins left in the first quarter?

We'll talk if he wins a playoff series.

No, we're talking now.

It's regardless if he wins or not. You are saying he's overrated. That's a different discussion than if he's on a sub-par team.

A players greatness is determined by his playoff success.
Thats just the way it goes. Doesnt matter how "skilled" you are, or how many points you can score if it doesnt lead to wins.

So technically, the only "great" player of the last decade or so is....?

It can't be Kobe because he only won with Shaq.
Can't be Wade because he only won with Shaq.
Can't be Shaq because he only won with Kobe/Wade.
Can't be Duncan because he only won with Parker/Robinson.
Can't be LeBron because he's won nothing.

So the last "great" player was Hakeem Olajuwon in 93-94 with a roster of no one?

Your argument is moot.

*edit: This is not an argument of "greatness", it's an argument of being overrated.

i don't think you have to win a championship, but you have to get out of the first round. at least once.

So this first round of the playoffs will determine Yao's greatness? I'll take that.

well lets say if he can't even beat an inexperienced portland team, then he definitely is not great. (though it looks like he will)

Why would anyone pick Portland to beat Houston when the regular season series was 2-1 Houston with the only loss coming on a last second Roy three pointer?

For me portland's surge in the last quarter of the season and houston's recent history in the first round was why i picked them (also just a natural bias against the Rockets' Hollinger Ball :z: ). I thought even though the blazers were young that they were the kind of group that wouldn't get too shellshocked by the playoffs. I guess I was wrong.

However, I won't be too surprised if Houston still manages to choke this away somehow.
